My wife and I still listen to music from the 60s. In fact, hits from the 60s are our favorite music. There are almost too many hits to list, and many of them were performed by groups that only had a single hit. I thought it might be fun for each of us to list a few. I'll start it off with:

Born to Be Wild by Steppenwolf
Do Wah Diddy Diddy by Manfred Mann
Good Vibrations by The Beach Boys

I listen to mid 60s to late 80s rock. I used to wish I was born ten years earlier. Having lived through 90s music, now I'm sure of it. Some 70s music is my comfort food.

Don't forget those Liverpool chaps.

My wife and I have quite a few favorites in the 70s, but we listen exclusively to a 60s station in the car.

Happy Together by The Turtles
Hey Jude by The Beatles
I Get Around by The Beach Boys

Except for a few songs I don't really know much pop music after the early seventies. (I tend to prefer classical, folk or earlier 20th century music), so the sixties (and fifties) were my favourite era for the charts. I particularly liked the early 60s, e.g.:

Gerry and the Pacemakers - Ferry Across the Mersey
Petula Clark - Downtown
The Seekers - The Carnival is Over

Petula Clarke really captured the "feel" of mid-1960s urban life.

I also liked her Don't Sleep in the Subway

The old music many times brings back fond memories.

I Heard It Throught the Grapevine by Marvin Gaye
I'm a Believer by the Monkees
Leader of the Pack by The Shangri-Las

Literally, in the 1960's mom forbid me from listening to the radio bc it was "the devils music."

She strictly only allowed me to listen to what she was listening to or first screened and then gave her approval.

So I got limited to musicals like My Fair lady, and The King and I, The Sound of Music, and other musicals that were currently popular.

She approved The chipmunks, The Archies, Sesame Street, and various talking albums.

And of course......Hawaiian music!!

Anyone else remember loving talking albums?

From what I remember the Archies were pretty scandalous...at least according to my dad. ^_^

There is so much from the 60's, a time when anyone could do it, hence so many styles that affected music for years to come from that era..

This one is a real trip, even without the video, even more so with it. But I can't think of a favorite...way too many to consider/choose from.

And then there was ROGER MILLER.

My mom loved Roger Miller...of course, she was a country girl and had lived in West Virginia, so she was familiar with hillbilly culture.

Mum and Dad had LPs by Tom Jones and Englebert Humperdinck which were played a lot when I was a kid in the 60's.

The Green Green Grass of Home from Tom and Please Release Me from Englebert were our top favourites.
