The pandemic is over....

If you are talking about the COVID pandemic, Fauci warns Americans
could face more lockdowns amid spread of new COVID-19 variants.

But this article is about "the pandemic border policy" of the current
administration by ending the policy, known as Title 42 , that will lead
many more people to try to cross the border and worsen the southern
migration crisis that this current President help to make in the first place.

"That inflow would add up to more than 500,000 people a month — or more
migrants than American births in a month. The southern flood would exacerbate
the economic damage already caused by the flood of roughly 1 million legal
immigrants and perhaps 400,000 new visa workers.

Either we need big pandemic restrictions or we dont.

If we dont, then we need another rationale for tightening the border. Congress could have provided this, but its failed under both D and R control.

We don't need big restrictions, never did. The pandemic did not seem to care how many restrictions were put on the citizens. It ignored them all for the slight inconvenience they gave it. As for non citizens, if they wish to enter the country legally they ought to at least be open to being tested to see if they are healthy when they come here. We don't expect to carry disease to other countries when we visit and shouldn't demand that those other countries allow us entry without being asked to prove our health is in good order. If they wish to enter illegally then they are obviously not trustworthy. So why would I welcome them? Would you welcome someone into your home that wanted to enter it while you were not looking without first asking your permission to enter? I wouldn't. I'm consistent in that regard.

...your're right, the WHO has not declared it over.

The CDC director made the following statement on Friday:
“I hereby determine that the danger of further introduction, transmission or spread of Covid-19 into the United States from covered noncitizens, as defined in the August order, has ceased to be a serious danger to the public health,” Dr. Rochelle P. Walensky, the C.D.C. director, wrote in her justification for ending the policy. She also said that she could issue a new order in the future “based on new findings, as dictated by public health needs.”

“These measures, along with the current public health landscape where 97.1 percent of the U.S. population lives in a county identified as having ‘low’ Covid-19 community level, will sufficiently mitigate the Covid-19 risk for U.S. communities,” the C.D.C. said in a statement.

We've heard the hyperbole.

What's the real story?

Republicans and Democrats have been talking about comprehensive immigration reform for many years and it never goes anywhere. Lawsuits aren't the answer. Sitting down together and working out a reasonable compromise is.

The hypocracy is unnerving. The pandemic is over however it's not when it comes to migrants.

If pandemic restriction arent needed, then its no big danger, and we can impose medical restrictions at the border just like before the pandemic.

I do get that pandemic restrictions can be a useful tool to selectively advance other policy preferences tho.

Uh-oh...because only the party currently in power has ever been really serious about combatting the pandemic.
Compare, for example, the infection, hospitalization, and death rates in NY and Florida. NY treats COVID seriously, and Florida actually passes laws to prevent businesses from requiring vaccines or wearing masks.

Are you suggesting that Florida should put Covid infected people into the retirements homes as New York did?

Florida Cases 5,899,287 Deaths 73,409
New York Cases 5,161,168 Deaths 68,523
Most of NY's problems occurred early on. Hospitals were overwhelmed. There were lines down the street for the ER. Refrigerator trucks with bodies inside.
There were no therapeutics available. No vaccines. When these became available, numbers plummeted.

Florida, on the other hand, had lower numbers early on, probably because more international travelers go through NYC's 3 giant international airports. But when the vaccines and therapeutics were available, the numbers soared because of a governor who prioritized tourism over people's health and discouraged mask wearing, public safety actions, vaccines, etc.

They counted the deaths. They just counted them in the hospital where they occurred rather than connecting them to the nursing homes the people came from.

How would they balance against the lies the Florida government told?

When people were hospitalized with COVID and died but happened to have, let's say, diabetes, and the state told the hospitals to say they died of the pre-existing condition.

TBT, if someone manages to stay alive with the preexisting condition for 10 years--then gets COVID and dies--to say he died of the preexisting condition is medical fraud.

Florida did a lot more minimizing of their COVID cases than other states did.
