For those who haven't heard of it, it's essentially Google's attempt to build a social network to rival Facebook. For those who have it I'm curious as to what you think of it and will it succeed?

Personally, I just started using it about two hours ago, and so far so good.

I'm on it and love it so far.

I really think that this will be the site that overthrows FB as the top social networking site. It's much more professional and Google can offer features that the owners of FB probably could never offer. I have a feeling FB will look amateur when Google is finished with + and it's no longer a Beta. It really already does IMO.

My only complaint right now about it is a) I haven't figured out if I can post on somebody else's wall and b) I would like interest groups like FB. Not stupid "join this if you want me to shave john's eyebrows when he's sleeping!", but actual interest pages that will connect people who have the same passions.

I do believe the potential is there to overthrow Facebook. I'm just curious to see how it all works out. I do like the circles idea and I have a feeling they will bring a lot of other cool features into play. Right now it's still a work in progress.

I think you will eventually be able to post on other people's walls and actually have real interest groups/pages to connect with others. It just might take a little bit of time.

Personally I do not think it will be the Facebook killer everyone seems to think it will be. I do not know anyone who is a frequent facebook user and not otherwise technologically literate who has heard of it or has any real interest in it, whilst Google are really pushing Plus even with their "limited" invite system i'm not sure it will really take off.

The way they are handling it has to be done carefully too, whilst someone are clambering all over the place for an exclusive invite from someone already in others have quickly lost interest in waiting to join in via the know-someone-who-knows-someone trickle. At the moment there are features in Google+ that feel like those available on Facebook, but they've been thrust into the users eye rather than sidling in via an update no many people seem to read.

It is nicely designed, but I expect no less from the Google brand. Until the people I need to contact via social networking migrate to it though it has nothing that wows me. I've said it before for those with an appreciation of good design and excellent coding it's delicious, for everyone else it's more of a "why do I need to?" thing.

I'm also wary due to the eerie similarity to Googles other attempts at social networking, they were praised as being the facebook killers, the next innovative means of socialising on the net, but they quickly drowned due to inadequate handling by the Google team when it came to access. Although Google+ has already surpassed its ancestors and some people have full networks i'm still sitting there thinking "this is it, this is what people were gushing about?".

Currently I do believe they will co-exist fairly well, each suiting a different type of social networker. It did not shock me to see who from my friendslist has already abandoned Facebook in favour of Plus, they are the ones who use it for slightly different reasons to the rest. I go on to communicate with relatives who barely understand how Skype works and find it amazing they can play games online where they can feed fish/build cities/fight dragons. It'll be a while before they move over, if ever.

We'll see. My opinion may change in the next month or so.

So they're in their trial phase, i finally found out where its at. They say they'll keep you posted as to when it's up. Thats where I think they've got their downfall. If they take too long, people will lose interest because they "can't get in" or they dont have an invite.

Yes, Crystal - it is by invite only right now. And the invitations are either rationed or a little hokey because I have had a couple of issues inviting people.

As for what I think about it; I like it, but I agree that we won't see if it's really going to take off or not until it's open to the public. Honestly, I don't even care if it overthrows Facebook. I could use both of them quite easily. Google+ is integrated into my gmail pretty much, so it's not as if I have to go somewhere extra to check it.

The entire quoted post was excellent, but the bits I left really match how I feel, especially the bolded.

Also, maybe I'm tech-stupid, but I don't see it letting me screen who adds me and I don't like that. I deny people on FB sometimes and I like having that ability. G+ is boring, but I imagine that will change once it's opened up to everyone.

I have to say being a fb user since the beginning (the time it only allowed college students) I still love it. Though, I am annoyed by a lot of things and mostly got even more annoyed when it allowed everyone else to join. But, I've gotten over it cause I have people from everywhere around the world, friends I haven't seen in ages, and people who have moved across country and other countries. So, no complaints there.

Now, I asked Sara for an invite last night, I played with it a little, I'm kind of confused but it did say they are working on it, so I hope it looks better. I'm also wondering if I will get bored of it like I did with myspace and twitter. I honestly, don't want to have two social networks, it just seems pointless. How many of the same pictures and comments do people need to hear about me? LOL.

We shall see what happens. Things change in the internet world....

Life changes in the regular world.
Its a good thing.

Good points.

But I sort of get the impression that a lot of people have been looking for an alternative to FB that isn't myspace. I don't know about anybody else, but even in this Beta, invite-only stage, my friends are switching fast. People are begging for invites and me and a friend were joking about how rich we could be if we charged lol.

It only takes a starting group to convince others to start moving over. I'm definitely one that's tired of FB and I've been encouraging my friends to get on Google+.

Facebook didn't kill Myspace in a day.
