My statement does not attempt to justify abortion. I was desperate and frightened. I had a very tenuous grasp on my sanity during that period.

Yet, under Church doctrine abortion is a grave sin, but taking the birth control pill is equally a grave sin. The age of birth control has changed society and the family in ways we can't begin to comprehend. Yet, not much outrage about birth control and many who sit in the pews and take the Eucharist after taking their daily pill the previous week. What gives?

I really dislike the topic title. It isn't good women (as such) who have abortions. To say that suggests that having an abortion is part of being good. The title ought to have been "Some good women have had an abortion". A title like that allows for repentance as well as acknowledging that good people can have things in their past that are not good. One ought not to make abortion seem like something good because it is never good even if a medical (or other) situation requires it.

    Hi,
PTSD person here. Going on 55 years now. One my dear is for a sexual incident. From that moment on my normal sexaul life was over, as any unwanted sexual encounter leaves one damaged and in my case for life.
The only benifit for this was, one day I accidentally ran across a girl who was talking to me. She was saying in the low security mental ward to me how she did not understand why she gets depressed in June each year. The only thing she said that ever happened to her was her uncle raped her in that month.....Your life ended. Your sexual life ended. (I jumped right in) From that moment on you were stuck at that mental age sexually. You have PTSD. Let me tell you what caoused mine. I then shared details. It is only the details that cure and person for 90 days. The technician looked on. I was totally in the moment. I shared not only that incident, but how I had to learn how to kill, in my job. I was trained by The Chicago Police department in a special security arrangement for my own parents. One day, no one was killed, but I became a reactionary killer. I no longer thought, the bullets just went at the bad guys in less than a second. That was not a good day. It was the day, I became not a murderer, but a killer.
That story did not repulse you. It did not, yet everyone here who has not had that kind of life, is repulsed and hurt by what I just said. You are healed by that. As it takes on older PTSD person, to talk to a younger one, and for some reason your life is better because of that conversation. I don't know why. I just know it works.

On abortion, that is just one more damaging thought. I have never ever talked to a woman yet, who did not miss her aborted or even miscarried baby. I know on woman who missed all of her aborted children. She is hurting over them.
The only reason I think that a woman should know about abortion from what I have learned, is you will still always hurt for the child you have lost.

You have been violated dear. You actually have a Band-of-Brothers connection with me and with all those in war, who have had to pull the trigger, or seen the trigger pulled. You are a soldier, a combat veteran, and you did not know that before today.

    LOVE,
    ...Katie., .... .

It's the name of one of the articles. I was trying to make the point that certain women believe abortion is a good thing. Read the articles.

Seems like the one group shouldn't be getting official backing while others aren't without some sort of compelling interest directly related to the school. I can't see any sort of compelling interest.

I understand what you are saying. A traumatic situation like the one you had can cause someone to temporarily not realize what they are doing. That's different than the ones who say that abortion is something good.

Is there ever a good reason for abortion?
Yes...when the expected baby has severe defects that would limit his quality of life, or when the mother's life is endangered.
Of course, the abortions done for these reasons are a minute fraction of the numbers of helpless infants that are murdered every year.

What is the difference between a woman who lies still while her unborn child is being sliced up, and a woman who drowns her three day old infant in the bathtub?
    Both women are murderers.

And good women don't murder their children....

    Hi,
I read both articles before I responded to your thread. Why are you asking? Maybe it is for this reason:
Once upon a time in my life, before God was known by me in any substatial way, a Catholic man and I had a discussion. He called abortion murder. That really upset me. He had lots of children so I let him off the hook verbally, otherwise I would have gone after him.
I was very much opposed to the whole idea of life, despite quality, and life despite justice, and life despite health, and really life in this world the way it is. Eventually I had a daughter in the worst circumstances, and when it came time to have another child, (I wanted three), I refused.
OhMyFeelings. I thought I had just refused life to a boy. I have felt horrible about that for almost ever. Sure my spouse turned out to be a Psychopath really. Sure I was severely verbally abused from morning till night. Sure my spouse took all of my money while earning nothing. Sure my spouse would have used that child to extract more money and more time out of me. However, it felt very much like an abortion. I have always missed the son, that did not come into this world because of my decision.
My daughter and life, helped her get what she needed for her. She was born with severe migraine headaches. She is uncoordinated. She is sickly for the reasons they say of being brought up in a high stress environment, from birth onwards. I grieve.
Yet, with all that is wrong, one day as I was getting closer and closer to God, my whole family life is being improved also. She had a dream about a man. It came true. She is married to that man now. Her only talents were academic. She graduated Summa Cum Laude in Psychology. It took her long. She had to recover from the same abuse I was taking for all those years. I grieve.
Yet, she called me last night after I called her and she didn't pick up the phone. The talk was amazing. All people who know her think she is amazing. She is me in some ways and I am my mom in some ways, and both my daughter and my mom are wondeful, but for both of them, it took extremely hard life situations to make them wonderful.
I will not speak of me here. I don't even really know me that well.
Now, anyone I know of in life who is brought up in horror of one sort or another turns out wondeful, should they decide not to blame others.
The world will never get better it seems, and to try and make it better by abortion will also not help, as nothing in this world helps to get rid of all that is wrong. Yet, even with that I can see the abortion issue logic and reasoning clearly. It seeks to improve. It seeks to make the world a better place.
The only problem with that is, evey woman and even me for merely refusing to procreate one day, hurts. If all the women are right about this, then life as we know it starts before conception. And, what in our hearts we hurt for is that person that was not allowed to be loved, by you, or me, or her.
    LOVE,
    ...Katie., .... .

According to the Church, those are not good reasons. An abortion is not needed if a mother's life is endangered since a doctor can try to save her without trying to kill the baby. If the baby dies as an unintended consequence it would be a double effect. This would not be an abortion since, by definition, an abortion is deliberately killing the baby in the womb. Abortion and trying to save the life of the mother are two separate goals.
