Tracie Peterson has good fiction for women. She writes clean Christian historical romance. Her content isn't as soft as Janet Oke, but it isn't gritty or inappropriately graphic either. She is probably my favorite contemporary fiction writer for romance.

I recently read the Count of Monte Cristo. It's Christian themes are quite poignant and it especially focuses on revenge, redemption and overcoming anger.

Anything by Dostoevsky is a recommend. Crime and Punishment and the Brothers Karamazov in particular.

You might also like G.K Chesterton's; The Ball and the Cross. It about a duel between a devout Catholic and an ardent Atheist.

Another book is The Way of the Pilgrim. It's a Russian Orthodox work. It's a narrative but it's primary purpose is to convey teaching about the Orthodox monastic tradition of continuous prayer.
