You didn't cause a scene Tall. We all get disheartened from time to time. I'm glad you've decided to stick around, and I mean that sincerely.

I see a huge spiritual battle going on for you Tall. That tells me two things. 1. Satan would consider you a huge trophy, because 2. God loves you very much.

I know that when you talk about leaving Adventism that you don't mean you'll leave Christianity as a whole, so I pray that you find the answers you're seeking. Of course we'd love for you to stay in Adventism, but you'll still be our brother even if you don't.

I just would really be shocked if you suddenly started talking about doctrine like the rapture or something like that....but I don't think you'd do that in the Adventist forum without expecting some thwackings. HA!

Hey Tall,

Remember this important lesson from SDA history, when the Great Advent Awakening started back in the 1840's, the various individuals that made up that small obscure movement did not have a complete understanding of the SDA 28 Bible doctrines as they exist in 2007 in the SDA church. And even now, there is more light to come. However, that is no reason to leave the "ship" and dive into the "Sea of Bablyon". Why? Because God will lead us as as corporate group into greater light. Case in point, William Miller, Rachel Oakes, Hiriam Edson, Ellen G. White, Joseph Bates, and the list goes on, all contributed to the sum total of the understanding of the 28 SDA beliefs. God may use you to bring greater light to the SDA church, and he may use me as well, or another of our 15 million members around the world.
That is what is exciting! And its promised in the book of Joel!

This is my first time here....I'm not of your faith, and know very little about it, so I hope you'll allow my intrusion....I've read a couple of the posts, and find it interesting that you hold your faith to be more "truthful" than others....yet I know the Catholics and others also believe THEIR doctrine is the real truth. How can there be so many......ONLY OUR TRUTH IS THE REAL TRUTH...when so many are different.

Well, there can only be one Bible truth. Not multiple interpretations. What faith keeps all truth and teaches it, that is unknown, though I believe no denomination is perfect in teachings.

This text backs me up...that there is one true faith

hi since this is your first time here let me give you the rundown. There are about 4 different groups, the traditionalist and the conservative believe the SDA church is the "true" church. the evenglicals and Progressives are a little more flexible on this issue.

We do think that there are things that are important and we believe that others are wrong on these matters. The big issue in Adventism is the "character of God". or what is God really like. doctrinal teaching is a teaching about God and if it is wrong then we will have a misconception about God, if we have a misconception about God we may turn away and be lost. This is the general premise to the SDA church and the basis to the claim of being the "true" church. the sda believe they have better teaching. There is also one other thing. The SDA church believes it is the fulfillment of bible prophecy , therefore prophecy is a big deal

I believe in Adventism that the real question is this.

Did Jesus Christ come with a sinful nature like we have or did He come with a sinless nature?

The first part is that if Jesus came with a sinless nature just as we have then for me to get into heaven then I must become just like Christ and overcome just like He did.

On the other hand if Jesus came with a sinless nature then my right to heaven is that I accept Him as my Saviour and although through the power of the Holy Spirit I will do everything possible so that I will not sin but becvause I have a different nature to Christ I understand sin in a different way and realize that I will never be perfect on this earth until "glorification" at the Second Coming of Jesus.

That maybe a very simplistic view of Adventism but breaking it down that way sums up how I see the issues today in our Church.

In other words it is a works Vs grace type of salvation.

They see her as having devotional valure only and not a source of doctrinal authority. The assumption that you make is that EGW's view is correct on the matter. That is something that should be posted in the Traditional SDA sub-fourm. Out on the Main page the Bible is the only common source of authority and is the only agreed upon rule of faith. It is nice that you have EGW to back you up, but it is not acceptable to others. Fish out of water. They also make clear that the Bible is the standard by which all teaching and experience must be tested. (Joel 2:28, 29; Acts 2:14-21; Heb. 1:1-3; Rev. 12:17; 19:10.)

what is your point. that the SDA's offical postion is in support of EGW as a source of authority. We already know that.

So I can only express my opinion in the TSDA forum, but those of the opposite opinion can express theirs in the main forum?

no dan. in a dotricanal discussion you can only use the bible as a source of authority in a common area. if it a discussion about EGW fine. But we are having a doctrinal discussion. EGW to some some is not a source of doctrianl authority. SO NO DAN YOU CANNOT USE EGW IN THIS DISCUSSION.

Just for your information, I did not use Ellen White in this discussion. I just questioned your objections to the use of that quote.

I consider myself to be conservative when it comes to theological issues like EGW, nature of Christ, investigative judgement, that kind of thing; and liberal when it comes to social and practical issues like ordination of women, music, wine, abortion, politics etc.
