Hi. What does it mean that by the scripture below?

Hebrew 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart

Is the scripture referring to Jesus Christ?
Or is it referring that meditating on bible scriptures (promises of God) that brings God's promises alive?

I appreciate your answers. Thanks

John.

It certainly has nothing to do with the Scriptures ( a plural term while the term "word of God" is singular ) .

Almost every time that the "New Testament" Scriptures use the term "word of God" they are referring to the gospel . Looking throughout Acts for this term makes this clear as the Jews were the only people receiving the gospel in the first chapters . However , the author writes several times that the "word of god" was spreading . The Jews already had all of the Scriptures and knew them quite well - the Scriptures were not being spread to the Jews - the gospel was . Context in the other writings also shows that much or most of the time , the gospel is being referred to .

However , the context of the OP's passage is about hearing His voice - the term is being used as what the Lord is saying to the individual .

When we read the word.

The word read acts as a two edged sword making manifest to us those things that are contrary in our thinking and heart(innermost being) to what the word instructs us.
