• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

How exactly does one begin to distinguish between personal intrusive thoughts and God's word, especially for something that is not addressed in Scripture?

For example, a while ago, I had a thought that if I played a video game, my brother would die. Since I thought this message came from God, I prayed for Him to send me a sign-- to let it rain tomorrow. Sure enough, it rained the next day. Still skeptical, however, I prayed two more times, and both times, it rained on the following day.

Part of me thinks that this is all a coincidence, and yet, there have been instances of God communicating towards people through the weather in the Bible.

How do I know that these are really signs from God, or a figment of my own imagination, playing tricks on me? Are there any parts of Scripture that address this question?

It is very simple, God does not speak directly to people.
So what you hear are intrusive thoughts.

In the bible when God spoke to people it was to call them to do a tasks, eh Moses, Samuel, etc etc.

Some say that the Holy Spirit moves or inspires people to do things or act a certain way. Is it possible for God to "communicate" in this less-direct manner?

I kept it simple.
Yes God does direct people to act, he does not leave it vague or unclear and deffinetly not to those who are already distracted by voices.
To be clear you are not hearing from God, you should talk to your doctor and have your medication adjusted.

Your mentor should be able to tell you.

Matthew 28:19
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,

Someone should be discipling you.

Firstly it is to compare it to scripture and ask yourself if God has said anything like that will happen with a given situation. Don't let the devil play mind games with you. He used to do the same with me. If the nature of the video game is evil don't play it otherwise more demons will start messing with your head. I know this from personal experience. Just stick to God's word and trust it ,don't allow your mind to be filled by paranoid garbage that satan want's you to obsess about.

In the name of Jesus Christ be free OCD and released of all your worries and receive His peace.
Amen.

This sounds like the way OCD works. Do you have OCD, that you know of?
