Dear Daily Message Readers,

READ: Song of Solomon 4

Song of Solomon 4:7 (ESV) “You are altogether beautiful, my love; there is no flaw in you.”

If you have been on this devotion list for very long, you are no stranger to our hard writings about faith and practice in today’s world. We are not ashamed to speak boldly of the reality of sin, judgment, hell, and eternity. We are not afraid to challenge cults and popular notions floating around the Christian church. In all things, we strive to glorify the triune God in our writing, presentation, and subject matter.

We also know that believers don’t hear enough about the love of God for them. In the Song of Solomon, we see the love of God firsthand. The book is the account of Solomon and his lover. However, the imagery of the book points to Jesus Christ and His relationship to the church. Today’s verse is the Bridegroom speaking to the bride. This is Jesus Christ speaking to His church. This is God speaking to you as a member of that church.

What does this have to do about the love of God toward you? The One who has saved you has made you like this (Song of Solomon 4:7). He shed His blood for you. If you struggle desperately to be like Christ and yearn to be like Him, sometimes you need to hear that when He looks at you, He sees no blemishes. He only sees His righteousness that you received when you repented and trusted Christ as Savior. With His own scars, His own wounds, and with the wrath of God the Father upon Him, Jesus took your place on the cross to make this possible.

Sometimes you need to re-hear that He has done an eternal work on your behalf that will not dissolve. By the work He has done for you, He loves you, and He calls you beautiful. God’s own work doesn’t change. He is always there loving you and desiring you. That will never change.

Faith Lesson: “For in him [Jesus] all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.”—Colossians 1:19-20

In Christ,
