I'm sorry in advance, I didn't know where to post this.
I have been working nine to fives and it's getting old. I'm struggling to make ends meet.I want to start my own business. Be my own boss for a change.I want a business that accomplishes a few things at once.Kill two birds with one stone if you will. I want to sell Christian merch.Everything that sells, a percent will go to a charity. My question is, do you think it's bad to make profit off the word of the Lord?I know they're others who do this, I'd just like some input on this.

We teamed up with Faith Counseling. Can they help you today?

You probably will not become rich selling the truth. But you will rake it in hand over fist selling today's popular "end times" "vision, and voices in the head" nomenclature.

My hopes are not to become rich, but to live comfortably better. I'll just be doing it as a side job for now. Inspiration quotes from the Bible is what I want on my merch.

As with so many things like things, go with your conscience. You don't want to do something you know you will regret. Personally, I say go for it. Someone is going to sell merch with inspirational bible quotes. Someone is going to buy it. It would be better that the one who sells it actually believes what the quotes say. That sounds like you. May God bless your endeavors so that you may bless others.

I wish you the best, but it's like the news media today, you need to sell what sells or go broke.

Actually, I think you have a good idea. Selling merchandise with inspiring messages and don't see where the Lord would take issue with it. With any business run it honestly.

From your post ... I am assuming you are looking at a online business.

    Keeping costs down.

First ... make a list of the inspirational sayings. Then determine what products to put them on.

You can build your own website pretty easy.
Look for suppliers that will dropship your items.

It will most likely take at least 1-2 years to get established and start ranking with the search engines.

With an online biz ... it is paramont to advertise like crazy ... lots of competition out there.

Percentage of charity ... you might consider choosing and stating what percentage goes to charity and also what those charities are.

I know myself ... I want to know how much of my purchase is actually going to charity and also for what "cause(s)"

Spend alot of time upfront researching ... do some searches and look at MANY websites that are kindred to what your business vision is.

There is alot ..... ALOT to learn. Go watch many many many youtubes about online businesses. How search engines work etc.

I built a website for my sons business ... and we are now in the middle of his 2nd year .... and only now is it starting to build .... and although much better ... still he is not earning his total living off it.

The first step is to become very very knowledgeable about all the different aspects involved with an online business. It IS alot of work ... alot and takes alot of time.

You have an idea ... now make a good business plan up front .... determine the costs, time, merchandise, advertisement ... then execute the plan.

Your biggest expense is and should be advertising ... how are people going to know about you ... find you?

May the Lord lead you. God Bless.

Not a great idea from a business stand point, that’s not exactly a niche market....the moral issue is between you and God.

First of all, God has you right where He wants you at this time, to teach you the lessons He wants you to know, so you may produce abiding fruit & glorify Him. Give Him thanks! (I Thess 5:18)

Second, all wealth comes from God, who blesses those who love & obey Him & do the Father's will.

Deuteronomy 8:18 "But you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth, that He may confirm His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

I Samuel 2:7 "The LORD makes poor & rich; He brings low, He also exalts.

Proverbs 30:8 Keep deception & lies far from me. Give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that is my portion, lest I be full & deny Thee & say, Who is LORD? Or lest I be poor & steal & use the name of my God profanely.

Eccl 5:19 Furthermore, as for every man to whom God has given riches & wealth, He has also empowered him to eat from them & to receive his reward & rejoice in his labor; this is the gift of God.

I remember when I was seeking the Lord for new employment & I received counsel from a friend that I might consider self-employment. So I went to the Lord in prayer, asking for His guidance & leading. The following week, I had two separate occurrences in Christian meetings, where the exact same message & Scriptures were used for starting a new venture. I thanked the Lord for the direction being pointed out to me, but then what business would I do.

Again I prayed for wisdom & leading. I told the Lord it would be His business & that as in the Christian life, I have given all my wealth & possessions to Him. I no longer own anything. I am now a steward of what He gives me to which I am responsible & to increase it & bear more fruit. You business will be as a steward of the Lord.

The Lord then reminded me of my hobby, that I enjoyed working with computers. I had a livelihood right under my nose. So I then went & got a business license, prayed for a place to do it & a shop opened up in a small mall.

You will find that at first you are working harder than you did when working for others. The one main advertising was being put in the yellow pages of the phone book. I found other ones didn't give me a return or new customers. Then the Lord reminded me the best advertising is 'word of mouth.'

If I did an excellent job of repairing computers & giving people good deals on new & used ones, I would simply say to pass the word along to their friends & family & neighbors. It was amazing how the Lord brought people in.

I even traveled over 50 miles to make a computer right & delivered it to them for no charge. Our word is our bond of trust.

I truly enjoyed the countless opportunities to proclaim the gospel in shop & or give a hug when someone was having a tough day. God is gracious; His mercies are new every morning. Great is His faithfulness.

I will pray that you will seek His will & do it when He reveals it & the wisdom He provides to make it work.

Thanks guys for all the positivity. I'm really feeling I can do this. I have a plan. I've been studying e-commerce for years now, but never took any action towards it.I have no laptop at the moment, but as soon as I start I will post updates here.

    God bless you all
