God spoke to me in the form of a whisper.

A few days ago, on the night of the 16th of August 2017. I was awoken by what sounded like a soft, gentle voice whisper one audible thing, my name. Although I heard something else after my name I could not understand it (sounded like mubling or something).

I have came to the forums today to ask for advice on how to react and how I should maybe pray to God for understanding since it seemingly had no message to it

Hello, and welcome to CF! We are glad you've joined us!

In response to your question - TEST ALL THINGS! It is always better to put off what you "think God might be telling you" because you don't wish to be deceived, than to strain in listening and receive the deceit of demons instead.

If God wishes to make something known to a person, it is usually crystal clear into the mind if it were to come in words. Mumbling isn't God's way of speaking to us. But there is a great deal of confusion and deception that is possible.

Much better to stay with what we know, reject anything that "seems to come to us". If God really does intend for a person to know something, He will make it clear. And if that seems to happen, test it, test it again, and run it by someone you trust and have them test it. Be ESPECIALLY wary of anything that makes you feel specially singled out, with anything that might incite even the tiniest bit of pride in your spirit. That is a common trick of the enemy. Meeting God should inspire great humility in us, and sorrow for our shortcomings, not any hint of pride.

I pray you will clearly discern.

After hearing this I did do some research and found out how to discern the voices that I hear, but nevertheless thank you for taking the time to warn others who may look at this post in future.

Actually looking back I did not consider that the fact that the enemy could try install pride into us by speaking to us like that and come to think of it I did feel a bit of pride. Thank yiu very much for informing me of this.God bless.

God does not speak in confusion. So if you could not understand it, then it is most likely not from God.

Moreover, if you could not understand it, you have no way to compare it to scripture. Scripture (i.e. the word of God) is the ultimate standard by which we are to determine if something is truly from God.

Additionally, the Bible is the all sufficient word of God. There is no need for new revelation from God since the Bible contains all things necessary for living a Godly life.

If you believe that there is new revelation from God, then you are on the level with Joseph Smith.

This sounds very reminiscent of what happened to Samuel in 1 Samuel 3:1-10, but I would agree that you should test all spirits. Pray to the Father in Jesus' name, asking that if it is He who is trying to speak to you then to make it plain, and say whatever He is desiring to say. Also ask that if it is a demonic spirit that He reveal this to you, and empower you to bind it in Jesus' name.

Let us know how it turns out. And if you believe it is God, share what He says to you.

I also would like to add that when God started speaking to me, it wasn't always very clear in the beginning. His voice is a small whisper at most times, and it can sound like a mumble if you aren't used to it yet.
You have to focus on Him in order to hear Him. He wants us to seek Him with our entire being, so He won't always just make it simple for us to hear Him. I once listened to a mumbling voice in the back of my mind, and what I could "translate" from it when I listened was a very clear "I AM" and I knew it was God, and I then understood that hearing His voice requires focus, at least until you learn how to discern the voices.

God talks to all believers, if we let Him, and sometimes whether we like it or not. We just need to study the Word in order to learn how to discern the voices.

Sounded like mumbling and you do not understand is the message. Could be a message that you have not understood something. Obviously, an important thing that you should be clear about.

Last night something did happen, I was thinking of the DofE expedition that I will be doing soon and a thought randomly appeared in my head. It was two words "Bible Prophecy", I am fairly certain this was not one of my own thoughts since I was already thinking. Any advice on how to react, look up scriptures, etc?

Pray to Him again to give you a specific leading or inclination towards a particular branch of Bible prophecy. It could be fulfilled prophecies such as those that predicted the coming of Christ, or the Lord could be directing you to study unfulfilled Biblical prophecies, like what is written in Daniel and Revelations.

Ask for a more specific leading. He will either answer, or you will get a leading and interest in a particular direction.

I was listening to a preacher once and He said something like God speaks in a small still voice... and sometimes he said He speaks through our feelings if it feels like we should go for it then it might be God it it is nothing wrong with it. I was Young and had gotten my drivinglicence and thought well God now You could show me the town so I drow aimlessly around I felt, turn here I felt a voice inside saying, then I felt turn here and again about 15 minutes...suddenly I had the police after me wherever I turned. Oups was my driving that suspect, well if this was Gods plan to lead the police to some place maybe He did it but I had really no idea were I was driving and decided it was time to go home so after some turns I drove home and thought maybe that wasn't Gods voice after all. Maybe I only imagined it in my mind and off course someone that drives aimlessly in town trying to remember streetnames might seem suspect. Luckily I had no follower after me going home. There are other times when I think I have senced Gods voice though.
