I was surprised when McCain voted, Nay. Maybe now that he has cancer that is so expensive to treat he is realizing how devastating it is for people who have insufficient coverage or no coverage at all.

I have wondered before if any of the Congressional health care choices cover pre-existing conditions.

(sigh) He was the scum of the earth yesterday, and now he's the second coming of Christ.

There's gotta be something wrong with that.
I have never thought of McCain to be even close to what you say. There are many Republicans who dislike McCain because he doesn't always vote party lines. He is one of the less partisan representatives in DC.
I personally know several, including myself, who would have voted for him for president if he had chosen a better VP. She really hurt his chances.

Your words not mine.

Did I have some disrespect for him two weeks ago ?

Yes

Do I have some respect for him now ?

Yes.

Second coming of Christ seem a little extreme.

Special Report With Bret Baier (with Chris Wallace sitting in for Bret Baier) July 20, 2017

Excerpt from commentary on news of Senator John McCain's brain cancer diagnosis:

"And you know you talk about him and the Republican party. The fact is he is beloved by Democrats, too. And he was one of the few true legislators who was really interested in trying to work out a compromise." - Chris Wallace

"I would have one caveat: He was loved when he was running against Republicans in 2000. He was not loved when he ran against Barack Obama. There's a double standard, especially in the press, and it was extremely accute with John McCain." - Charles Krauthammer

"Point well made." - Chris Wallace

This thread is frightening. There are no words foul or disgusting or rude enough to express what I feel for this vile vermin John McCain.
Do you think that Pope Francis would agree with that?

I doubt it. The Pope is the Pope, however his politics leave much to be desired. Luckily, a Pope is not infallible when it comes to politics.

Never liked or respected him, and still don't. I wasn't surprised by his actions because the neocons defy party lines which is why this psychopath was right there beside Obama telling us we should arm the terrorists in Syria.

I respect McCain's naval service, the same as I would for any honorable veteran. I respect his POW status. As for his political career, he is one more example of why we need congressional term limits. I think it's high time the man retired. Insofar as Obamacare goes, I think we should simply nullify HMOA73, which Richard Nixon signed into law back in 1973. If you are unfamiliar with the law in question, you can read more about it here:

Thanks Nixon: Before 1973 it was against US law to make a profit off of health care -- Sott.net

Some on the left said some very malicious things about McCain when he ran against Obama for POTUS.

Some on the right said some very malicious things against McCain while running for POTUS just last years.

Not to mention the malicious thing said about him by some on the right last week.

All McCain did was make a sacrifice in a vain attempt to hide Republican cowardice. It's clear that more Republican congressmen would have voted "nay" if it was required to stop the bill, but were worried that their voters might take issue with the fact that they ran on repealing Obamacare and then voted to maintain it. What other explanation could there be for the countless show votes with widespread Republican support to repeal it when they did not have the numbers to make this possible, and the loss by exactly one vote here (on top of the frequent failures earlier to pass bills, some the exact same bills that had previously received widespread Republican support)? I have even heard reports that members in the senate had communicated to members in the house that they would pass the bill through the senate; but only on the condition that the house blocked it.

I can't see how anyone on either side can support such behavior. It's dishonest, sleazy and helps no one. I can't give McCain much credit either for his "sacrifice" when he had little to lose in the first place, and he got some temporary praise from the left to stoke his ego out of the deal.

There some on both sides who don't like him. Some on the left didn't like him when he ran against Obama. They went back to being his friend after he lost the election. Some on the right (and on the left) don't like that he was for giving weapons and training to the so-called rebels in Syria. And there are some who don't agree with things he does but who respect his military service.

I do agree with CC that I pray God blesses McCain, and hopefully he gets over the cancer he is dealing with. I do not agree with his policies, nor the fact that he has always been the worse type of Republician, i.e. a beltway Republican that thinks the government is the solution to everything.

That being said, I find it comical that Repubs and Dems really think they are two opposing forces. If anything President Trump has exposed that lie for what it is. There is just no difference between the two, and never really has been. We desperately need a 3rd party in this country to be the opposing force of the one united party that we have now.

Gotta respect a man like McCain. I didn't like him as a Presidential candidate because I thought he was a bit of a hot head, but he is and always has been an amazing American.

He is a hot head. And a liberal.

From what I hear from Trump folks, the Republican Party has had many liberal presidents and candidates for president. Certainly, the view of Reagan were considered liberal in the 2016 primaries. Reagan operatives like Kasich had no chance.
