Who are patriots under God? Lexico.com defines a patriot as a “person who vigorously supports their country and is prepared to defend it against enemies or detractors.” So, as far as a patriot is concerned, there is a country involved.

But is it any country, as far as God is concerned? It is only a country that rules under God. Romans 13:1 infers that a country that rules under God is one that rules as an extension of God, reflecting what He wants according to what He breathed into the Bible.

A country is a function of who governs it. Some say the governing authorities are appointed by the people, and some say the governing authorities appoint themselves. Some say the governing authorities are appointed by God. For those who love God, God has a hand in all these instances. Daniel 2:21 says that He removes kings and sets up kings, and He gives wisdom to such who are wise and knowledge to such who have understanding.

Where a nation is under God and the governing authorities decide that the people determine who shall be the presiding authorities in the government, God has a hand in whom the people decide. Such people, in accordance with Romans 13:1, would want the authorities to rule as an extension of God. What does God stand for? He stands for loving your neighbor and helping the poor and needy. He stands for loving Him and protecting those who love Him.

Under God, a patriot supports a country under God. Where the will of the people who worship God determines who will lead and provide for them, the people defer to such a government. All the laws, rules, procedures, and other mechanisms that have been etched into the rule of a country under God, are respected by those in such a country under God. Any person who supports and defends such a country is a patriot under God.

Romans 13:1 says to LET every person be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except from God. There may be governments who do not preside with God in mind, but since Romans 13:1 is in the Bible, we can presume that a government that Romans 13:1 refers to is a government whose authority is from God. As to the role of such a government, Romans 13:4 says that such a government is God’s servant for your good. And “good” is whatever God considers to be good, as referred to in the Bible. The Book of Genesis, for instance, delineates what God considers to be good. Any person who supports and defends such a government is a patriot under God.

Where God has given His approval to the way a government set up, its existence is continuous. Notably, Proverbs 28:2 says, “When a land transgresses, it has many rulers, but with a man of understanding and knowledge, its stability will long continue.” There are countries, both in the Bible and after biblical times, who have not governed with the people in mind. How many times has the rulership, in terms of the type of government, turned over in those lands? They did not rule under God. The knowledge that Proverbs 28:2 refers to is the knowledge of what God wants and what to do for Him. Stability comes when rulers, aka governments, act on the basis of the knowledge, in deference in according to such knowledge, that Proverbs 28:2 refers to. So, any person who supports and defends such a government is a patriot under God.

Can a person who acts to subvert such a government, or any government under God, by attacking the mechanisms it has set up to govern, be considered a patriot? How is a person, calling themselves a patriot, defending the government in that instance? What aspect and mechanisms of such a government is the person supporting and defending? Is there an answer?

In closing, Psalms 33:12 says “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!”

I don't see the higher authority as the government. I know that the new bibles say that it is. If indeed that is the case then we can look at it as God does set up rulers but it doesn't say he does so with all rulers. When the antichrist comes on the scene he will be a ruler and we can't look to Roman's and say that we are to follow or obey.

The rulers that Romans refers to are the ones that act under authority from God. Since Romans is in the Bible, that is the only presumption that can be made. The other rulers and the antichrist you refer to have no place in Romans 13:1.

Jesus said his kingdom is not of this world, so believers do not take up arms in behalf of their country.

So Christians are left to make up their minds which rulers are antichrist rulers and which are God's friends?

Given the strong argument between supporters of Biden and supporters of Trump on this forum, it would seem that Christians aren't very good at discerning.

Perhaps God's man is the one with the most votes? (Or maybe that's the antichrist's man)

That has always been the case. The responsibility rests on each individual to determine what is good and what is evil If an individual does not have the mental capacity to determine right from wrong, it’s up to others to inform/show that individual in the spirit of neighborly love.

There is enough in the Bible to enable us to distinguish good from evil.

Many passages in the Bible command us to do so. 1 John 4:1 is one such passage.

Agreed. I was just making the point that ultimately it's up to the individual.

Mental capacity barely touches the surface, it's far more about conscience. Otherwise only 'educated' people could become good!
There is enough in the Bible to enable us to distinguish good from evil.
The Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery, complete with their bible verses. And Jesus just tossed it back in their faces.
Many passages in the Bible command us to do so. 1 John 4:1 is one such passage.
1Jn4v1Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
Exactly, and you can't test spirits by just knowing bible verses. Satan is very theological, just like the Pharisees.
Most cases are not just yes or no answers, especially with snake oil politicians and governments. The best way is to use spiritual discernment,or directly ask the Lord for a word of knowledge

Wonder when christians will get back to the great commission and of telling people who are looking for Eternal Life how to receive Gods free gift of Eternal Life and leave the lying political world to their lies and deceptions.

By judging the interest on this forum i doubt never.

John 15:13 - Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.
You do this by refusing to fight, according to Jesus. Love enemies, don't kill them.........
Nope.
Refusing to fight negates the possibility of laying down your life for your friends.

Refusing to fight merely means they kill you first................and then rape your wife and daughter.

You laid down your life alright, but that was not for your friends, or family, you laid your life down for a religious dogma!

In doing so, you betrayed your friends and family!

You didn't love your enemy.

You certainly didn't love your family or friends.

But you did love your religious dogma far above all else, including Christ

I see that passage thrown around all the time to say that we are to obey government and that all leaders are placed by God. I've always had a hard time convincing people otherwise.
