A federal judge on Monday permanently blocked Georgia’s 2019 “heartbeat” abortion law, finding that it violates the U.S. Constitution.

U.S. District Judge Steve Jones ruled against the state in a lawsuit filed by abortion providers and an advocacy group. Jones had temporarily blocked the law in October, and it never went into effect. The new ruling permanently enjoins the state from ever enforcing House Bill 481.

Jones refused to leave any parts of the law in effect, which would have also granted personhood to a fetus, giving it the same legal rights as people have after they’re born. For example, a mother could have claimed a fetus as a dependent to reduce taxes.

Republican Gov. Brian Kemp, who has supported the restriction, immediately vowed an appeal.

“We will appeal the court’s decision,” Kemp said in a statement. “Georgia values life and we will keep fighting for the rights of the unborn.”

If only the unborn could have a say. I bet they wouldn't think abortion was a good idea. Those that already got a chance at life shouldn't be able to take it away from the next person. Everyone deserves a chance to experience life and all it has to offer.

It appears that the Supreme Court still intends to enforce Rowe v Wade, so it looks like the State is fighting a losing battle.

There have been some comments about Roberts' opinion not being so positive, but as far as I can tell, he favors the "undue burden" test rather than the balancing test used by the other four. But either test would apply to this law.

If only the unborn could have a say.

If only we could get the truth if we asked any adult what they would choose if they could speak, and defend themselves at a fetal stage.

Would they opt that they themselves should live or die? Would they say, "I'm a fetus and don't have any right to life"?

We're nearly at the next presidential election and for all their holding their nose and voting for the guy who pays lip service for ideas, what do the pro-life people have to show?

Was it worth it?

I think so, on that front. There’s only so much a president can do, and I think he’s done more than most.

And this is coming from a guy who asked his supporters before the last election how they knew he wouldn’t flip-flop on the abortion issue.

But here’s the other side. Biden will do absolutely nothing to support any pro-life position. So if it comes down to that issue, the choice is easy.

A first trimester fetus doesn’t have the capacity to speak. Or reason. Because it doesn’t possess higher brain functions. Assigning a voice to something that doesn’t have one is a pointless exercise...

Yeah, they really need advocates.

That’s an evil way of looking at things.
No, it's rational. Why can you pull the plug on a brain dead person? Because there are no higher brain functions; there is no consciousness. Before the 26th week, a fetus doesn't even have the brain structure to have consciousness. Ergo, not a person.

If Trump gets the second term the evangelical theatre he has put of for so long will vanish.

Everyone has seen how fast he throws people under the bus if they become inconvenient.....

Should Trump have nothing to gain by participating in anti gay parades, or pro life rallies , or waving a Bible in front of a church there is a zero chance he will do it instead of golfing and hosting dictators at his golf resort.

Or does anyone really feel that Trump has deep religious convictions instead of political convenience ?

“Is that your Bible?” “ It is a Bible”

That’s the level of commitment you can expect on Trump’s second term.

clump of cells.
clump of cells.

You once were a zygote.

You did not come from an embryo.

You once were an embryo.

You did not come from a fetus.

You once were a fetus.

You did not come from an adolescent.

You once were an adolescent.

From the facts of brain and nerve development, the pained expressions on the faces of aborted fetuses, the known ability to experience other sensations at this time, and the current methods by which abortions are performed, Noonan concludes from his research that as soon as a pain mechanism is present in the fetus—possibly as early as day 56, the methods used can cause pain.
