Recusal while writing something supportive of the suspects in this case indicates gross misconduct. How does anyone justify the attempt to fix this case from the start? It wasn't until the tape was released that we saw real movement on this case.

I've some tidbits in my other Arbery thread that you might find interesting (though entirely unsurprising) - a couple years ago, DA Barnhill's office was pretty aggressive in its prosecution of a local black politician for inadvertently violating polling place procedure in a case that lots of people at the time saw as a thinly-veiled attempt at racialized voter suppression.

They definitely need to go after Barnhill. What he did in this case is ridiculous.

It is truly a sad time for the good Christian people of Georgia that now have to live in fear of marauding Black’s running through their neighborhoods and being unable to do anything about it.

Former prosecutor indicted over Ahmaud Arbery case, accused of helping shield suspects in fatal shooting

A grand jury on Thursday indicted a former Georgia prosecutor over her handling of Ahmaud Arbery’s fatal shooting, on allegations she helped shield men now charged with murder in a case that went for months without arrests.

Ex-Brunswick Judicial Circuit District Attorney Jackie Johnson is accused of violating her oath of office and obstructing police after the Black man’s death in February of 2020.

Thursday’s indictment says Johnson showed “favor and affection” to suspect Greg McMichael, who was previously an investigator in her office, and also failed to “treat Ahmaud Arbery and his family fairly and with dignity” when she sought help from another district attorney — now also under investigation — who argued the shooting was justified before recusing himself.

Johnson is also accused of obstructing law enforcement by directing that Greg McMichael’s son, Travis McMichael, should not be arrested, “contrary to the laws” of Georgia.
