Whole grains and fruit are good for you! (IMO)

I try to eat my foods as "whole" (not refined/processed) as reasonably possible...I basically eat a lot of whole grains, veggies and fruit and some lean meat (lots of fish) and low-fat dairy. I buy organic meat and milk and free-range eggs (after owning chickens I'll never buy caged chicken products again! :( Poor chickies!), and when it comes to produce I aim for local and organic depending on what it is (some are more worth the organic label than others). I eat a square of dark chocolate every day (yum) and have treats occasionally. I feel like I'm finally settling into a food balance that is working for me...not just a phase like I usually go through.

Currently I'm being a lazy bum so I need to get back into an exercise routine, but I work full-time in an apartment building and don't take the elevator so I do a lot of running up and down the stairs during work which must be better than nothing! :)

If a place I need to get too is within 2 hours walking distance then I walk. Also my husband and I love taking evening walks. There are so many places to see in our new city and on weekends a train ride to more scenic places is a wonderful thing.

My weight is always on the low side and my blood pressure too. I'm going to do more exercise this year to hopefully improve circulation and build some muscle since I'm probably mostly fat which accounts for my low weight lol.

Food wise, I need to cut out sugary snacks and crisps full stop! Does anyone have any replacements for junk food?

    What is wrong with fat?

Grains are killing human beings slowly. I 100% believe this. Here is why:

How Grains Are Killing You Slowly รข€” Wellness Mama

    "
Gluten and Lectin now move their destructive dance to the gallbladder. The Gall bladder releases bile salts that help break down and properly digest foods. When the intestines are damaged, the chemical responsible for starting this bile secretion is not released. Bile backs up in the gall bladder, and cholesterol that is left there crystallizes into little “stones” that are usually surgically removed with the rest of the gall bladder. Talk about cutting off the nose to spite the face!
These chain-reactions created by grain consumption are shown to increase your risk of:
    • Various cancers including, drumroll please:pancreatic, colon, stomach and lymphoma
    • Autoimmune diseases like Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis
    • Infertility
    • Diabetes
    • Obesity
    • Arthritis
    • Autism
    • Depression, Anxiety and Schizophrenia
    • Allergies

I don't know. I think I'm in the process of giving up and going with the everything in moderation deal. I drink sodas. I eat bacon. I like fried foods. I like some processed foods like chicken nuggets and hot dogs. I like a dinner out to McDonald's every so often (love the fries). I like dessert. I've decided that I'd rather live 60 years and enjoy myself than 90 and be miserable because I won't allow myself near a brownie.

Oh but I did join Richard Simmons official Facebook page recently. I really like his upbeat attitude and the tips he gives each day in order to live a life of moderation. *nods*

I am no longer eating foods that have absolutely NO dietary value whatsoever. At least chocolate provides calcium, and some iron, and yes - moderation in all things. I have sat and eaten chocolate to the extreme in the past. Not good for anyone to do that.

Of course I'm not going to eat bacon, because I don't eat meat, but it is anyway a meat that is nothing but fat. I don't miss it at all. For the last 5 years ago, when I did eat bacon, I ate turkey bacon, which tasted better (to me) and had significantly less fat. Although it's good to have fat in moderation, it is better coming from a source that has less saturated fat.

Anyway, we are about to leave for our walk. :)

Look up the ingredients list for fries on McDonald's website. A lot of chemicals. Think about what that is doing to your body?

Don't remind me...I'm eating some right now.

They are fighting it out with the apple and banana I ate earlier.

Why not eat more meat and veggies? Sugar, whether it be fruit, bread or a cupcake, can cause the body problems.
