I remember when, during my younger years, and before ever contemplating Christianity deeply and more fully, I felt that everything I needed to know I learned from one of favorites, Billy Joel! And alas, my poor mother, who I told not to shove her religion upon me for one reason and another ... due to this or that ---

Billy Joel - Pressure (1982)

... and maybe it's because somewhere along the way, I wanted and needed what probably most of us need a little and a lot of these days! Thanks, Billy Joel, for honestly helping to give me some words for my feelings and thoughts, all along the way:

Billy Joel - Honesty (1978)

Yeah, it's just another thread for posting your fab favorite songs/music videos, of whatever kind (and within reason). Make whatever comments you'd like about each other's songs. So, I'll start us Gen Xer's off!

Here we go  !

Red Rider - "Lunatic Fringe" (1981)

... Lunatic Fringe, I know you're out there ... !

Still the same classics - Yes, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, some jazz and for newer stuff I quite like Devics and The be good Tanyas. Between those the RHCPs and some other 90s stuff occasionally.

This brings back happy memories. Celine Dion at the Arena in Birmingham, UK. Went with a friend and had a good old singalong. We weren't sitting too far from where this footage was taken - probably only 20-30m or so, so had a good view of the stage.

The 1990's was the end of my music era really. Most of the songs I love nowadays are from the 70s through to the 90s, with a few of the 00's added in.

I'll have to look up those last few you mentioned ... ^_^

I still listen to The Beatles occasionally. It’s hard to put your finger on what they had that makes them different, but there’s some magic in there.

Oh, yeah! The Beatles do have some mojo in their music. This is particularly the case with one little song I grew up loving ---------------------minus "the disease" part of it, of course!:rolleyes:

The Beatles - Come Together (1969)

"He bag production
He got walrus gumboot
He got Ono sideboard
He one spinal cracker
He got feet down below his knee
Hold you in his armchair
You can feel his disease
Come together, right now
Over me ... "

I'm fired up and just have to HIT the Road of LIFE, such as it is these days ... so

LET'S RIDE !!!

Spiderbait - Ghost Rider in the Sky (2007) [song cover from Ghost Rider movie soundtrack]

" ... As the riders loped on by him he heard one call his name
If you want to save your soul from hell a-riding on our range
Then cowboy change your ways today or with us you will ride
Trying to catch the devil's herd, across these endless skies ... "

Not so long ago, I came across this little ditty. While my wife wasn't impressed, something about this song captured my own personal vibes ... about getting high enough.

The Gray Havens (featuring Propaganda) - High Enough (2018) [Christian indie group]

" 'Cause we fly, to the mountain top
We climb, to the skies above
We sail, to the stars and up
But we can't get high, high
We fly, we fly, to the mountain top
We climb, we climb, to the skies above
We sail, we sail, to the stars and up
But we can't get high, high enough ... "

I'm currently listening to silence right now, lol (since its late, I should go to bed, even tho I have nowhere to go tomorrow). I love listening to rock/pop from the 90s and early 2000s. Those were my high school and early college days. Man, to be in my 20s again...loved that time of my life...prolly why I keep listening to songs from that time...

Oh, the creepy crawlies I used to feel when I was young and emotionally impressionable (like, uh, age 7) and this song flowed from the speakers like an eerie mist. I just wish the inherent and intended meaning of dissuasion that this song was supposed to elicit had hit me a little more deeply. Still, every time we'd driving at night and this song would play on the radio, it freaked me out!

Thanks for the creepy persuasion, Cliff Richard! It's always been, strangely, one of my favorites....................................................

Cliff Richard - DEVIL WOMAN (1976)

" She's just a devil woman
With evil on her mind
Beware the devil woman
She's gonna get you
She's just a devil woman
With evil on her mind
Beware the devil woman
She's gonna get you from behind ... " (yikes!)

In follow up to the previous song I posted above, I thought I'd post this cover of the 1978 song by The Police, performed by Christian scream rocker, Lacey Sturm (former lead singer of Flyleaf). I really like the way she carries the song above and beyond its classic confines as written by Sting, infusing it with a few additional lyrics and a Christ-point of view toward some representational idea of ...

Lacey Sturm - Roxanne (2016)

" I know your heart is broken
And it's left you so wide open
I know your heart is broken
Roxanne
Don't try to pick up the pieces
Just leave them where they lie
I'm gonna give you a new heart
Tonight ... "

Back in the late 1980's, when I had only been a Christian for a couple of years and the Christian faith was still somewhat 'new' to me, I had one of the worst psychological time periods of my life. It was a time of deep sorrow where I, in fact, cried every stinking day. The ironic kicker is that I was attending a bible college at the time and one might think I'd have felt differently and more positively in such an environment. I didn't. However, there was a silver-lining behind the dark psychological clouds I was experiencing and one of the few rays of Son-shine that hit me that year was the following gospel song by the group known as .......... 2nd Chapter of Acts.

Thank you, Lord, for sending that song my way at that time. I remember it now, so long ago..................... :prayer::

2nd Chapter of Acts - Sing Over Me (1987)

" Look out my heart the wind is blowing again
It's time to batten down the broken parts
Look out my heart debris is flying around
Confusion wants to shake your solid ground

Storms may come along and winds may blow
Raging tempest will come and go
But I'll hide in the shadow of Your wings

I'll hide in the shadow of Your wings
And listen while You sing
I'll hide in the shadow of Your wings
And listen while You sing over me ... "

Here's another 45 r.p.m. spin on the concept of the 'Original Sin.' For some reason, this song has stuck with me over the years ... maybe not so much because of its lyrical content citing something I barely understood as a teenager, but because I thought Michael Hutchence looked so cool with his bike and shades as he moved to a kind of oriental theme ... ! Oh boy! That "1980's" New Wave rock swagger! Now, that's a sin! ^_^

INXS - Original Sin (1984)

" You might know of the original sin
And you might know how to play with fire
But did you know of the murder committed
In the name of love you thought what a pity
Dream on white boy
Dream on black girl
Then wake up to a brand new day
To find your dreams are washed away ... "

A few years ago my son and I saw U2 in concert, and oh what a concert it was! For some reason or other, the following song from their latest album which was featured in that concert has resonated with me, both when it was released and especially now. I guess it shouldn't be too much of a mystery as to "why" this is the case ...

U2 - Blackout (2017)

" Dinosaur, wonders why it still walks the earth, yeah
A meteor, promises it's not gonna hurt, yeah
Earth quakes always happen when you're in bed Fred
The house shakes maybe it was something I said Ned

…go easy on me, easy on me brother
…go easy on me, easy on me brother

When the lights go out
And you throw yourself about in the darkness where you learn to see
When the lights go out
Don't you ever doubt
The light that we can really be ... "
