It appears martial law only applies to the national guard, but the president can declare it at a whim, although obviously it's the side benefits that Trump would be looking for:

With so many coming forth testifying of the irregularities (or fraud, or illegalities, or whatever one chooses to call them), and with many millions of people saying the vote was compromised (or ??), what should be done? IF truly fraudulent, it seems an extreme act against the country. So, with what extreme should it be opposed? Currently it seems the Supreme Court is where it's headed???????

Wow, so their limited martial law includes the one thing the president cannot order with martial law, the military. It's quite frightening how much more I know about the US system than alot of people that live there.

How the president could invoke martial law

Martial law does have limits. The Posse Comitatus Act, passed on June 18, 1878, prevented federal troops from supervising Confederate state elections during Reconstruction. Though initially it only applied to the Army, it has been amended to include the Defense Department and, of course, the other service branches. That act prevents troops from enforcing domestic law, preventing such actions as searching and seizing property or dispersing crowds. However, National Guard units, which take their direction from state governors, are exempt from the Posse Comitatus Act.
