True. The truth eventually comes out. But it could well be that it was just an odd and awkward handshake.

I think that's right. If you look closely, the Pope appears to be giving his hand to her, but not flat like we usually do. Instead, it's somewhat cupped.

This is the technique of politicians and other people who have to shake a lot of hands at a reception or etc., and it's done to keep from having one's hand be squeezed and bruised by enthusiastic well-wishers. It forces the other person to grasp the outstretched hand around the knuckles more than against the palm.
