I saw that, this isn't free, and definitely is not unlimited free. In my opinion when there are conditions and/or requests, we couldn't call it free.

Anyone sign-up and still using 1&1?
I have 3 active (among many sites) test sites I use and 2 are at tripod and the other is a very good shell account I have. I was working on Nuke at my shell account today but they have been having some really bad problems with their network for some time now. Well its just a bunch of guys with a garage server but they offer a great shell account for free for educational purposes (hard to get).
This seems like a good deal. Linux shell account with many bells and whistles (not all it seems, maybe) but the only tradeoff for having an account in this promotion is that it has no phone tech support. Thats fine though, I dont need that at all. Pitty it only has 1 MySQL database which is very strange for a "pro" account for most hosts.
Im at the point of replying to them by email and getting my pin number by phone, which Ill do tomorrow. Just wondering if anyone has been using this service.

BEFORE YOU SIGN UP TO ANY WEBHOST, RUN IT THROUGH THEIR SEARCH ENGINE.
That website is a hosting discussion forum, the biggest on the internet. Many of the threads on there are related to customer experiences with various webhosts. If you've found a bad webhost, chances are that a disgruntled customer has posted a thread about it. Be informed before you hand over your cash!
Also, THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS "UNLIMITED BANDWIDTH" HOSTING. Run that through their forum search engine too, if you don't believe me.

Yeah I got the account going yesterday. I installed a sqladmin and PHPnuke/PHPBB and had no problems what so ever. Not only do I have all the standard web hosting essentials but I have access to my shell through SSH which offers additional services (for me not visitors) from the servers shared files.
Downside? Im in California, the server is in NY and my single db is in Germany.
Upside: Free for 3 years with no advertisement. Easy sign up with no hidden charges at all (so far). All I had to do was sign up, receive an automated phone call to give me a Pin number and then activate using no cc# or bank account#.
