The problem is that a bunch of self-important Enlightenment-era Germans think that they know Greek better than the Greeks, especially as Koine Greek has continuously been used liturgically since the days of the New Testament. Sure, pronunciation doesn't affect meaning. But wrong is wrong. Why not try to be less wrong?

"abomination"? A little overboard don't you think - especially since meaning isn't affected.

maybe back in their time it was harder to find someone who knew how to speak greek? it's not like they could go on the internet and learn.
