Those kids are being used by anti-gun groups who are paying
to put them on the news and paint their signs, etc. Probably
writing their speeches, too. That is why they keep attacking
the NRA rather than coming up with new ideas or talking about
why the FBI and the BCSO failed to do their jobs.

People who call for "gun control" (very vague term) after these events often tell those who are opposed to it that, "The police can protect you". Well, what happens when, as in this case, they won't?

The solution isn't banning certain weapons or "expanding" background checks (which I have no problem with doing, but it would have had no impact on this case), but enforcing current laws, and imposing some sort of punishment against agencies who refuse to act in accordance with it. This tragedy was the result of a total failure to act by local, state and federal government agencies. The only other person who deserves blame is the shooter himself.

I think we as Christians should not judge. I remember the story of the cross for Jesus the Christ, and that none of his apostles even acknowledged him for fear of death. Who are we? Better than his chosen. Again I say the holy ghost decides courage, for it is lack of fear, and is God's spirit. And he will choose who receives courage in life or death situations. He preserves some for another day, and allows others to die when he decides.

And if a man decides to risk his life for another, and he dies for it. Who are we to make that decision for another. It is ultimately their decision to make. And law enforcement is no exception to this just law. If I put a man at risk against his will then he dies, is not that against the law as manslaughter?

We cannot demand law enforcement risk their lives. Their job is risk of life even if they aren't in the path of school shooting danger, every day of every hour they are at risk, stopping a car now days is risk of being shot, as I see from the news. One could image someone getting tired of being at risk of being shot continually, and perhaps take precautions during high risk situations.

Law enforcement experience a different life than we do.

I'm posting this because I believe it is the right way to think, it is my belief.

And if I can't demand law enforcement to die for me and my family, then perhaps I should own a gun too ;) And if we're turning guns into plows, then you should really include law enforcement, but then they're likely to be shot the more. Because the guns will cross the borders with the mafia and such. And then there's knife and sword attacks that happen in gunless societies. See this link for the Japan school massacre (8 dead 13 injured): Osaka school massacre - Wikipedia

I don't know which is worse, being shot or slashed. But gunless societies still have the problems.

I have no problem with the idea of eliminating "military style weapons" I am a gun owner, but I am a rational one. Why in Earth would anyone need these wespons to defend their own home? Whats the matter with a simple pistol or a shotgun? Thats more than enough for the job.

The problem of defending our schools ... is a very big challenge. Without a doubt, we are all going to have to.pay a lot more taxes. If we increase security (fences, metal detectors) and we provide 2-3 armed guards at every school ... that will cost a LOT of money. And it cannot be paid just by parents. So everyone will wind up footing the bill.

And there is no point in complaining about the added cost. All kinds of people are running around insisting on the freedom to sell AR-15 weapons to teenagers. OK you want that freedom .. then you have to foot the bill for School Protection. And no complaints.

I grew up in the country generally, and had a gun since about age 7, and we had so many we didn't even worry about some out in the barn rusting. I guess we had around 17 or so as I tried to remember a while back.

I don't think we had that bumber sticker "You'll have to pry my gun from my cold dead fingers." but I remember we admired and waved at those that did.

    See?

Our pickup rack had a rifle or two in it normally, and usually there was a handgun on the floorboard.

Our prize gun was a 30-06 Norma Magnum, with a shells that looks sorta like a small artillery piece. Fun to shoot that cannon!

Get the picture of how I see guns?

    Ok, consider this then:

As I opened the CT scan last week to read the next case, I was baffled. The history simply read “gunshot wound.” I have been a radiologist in one of the busiest trauma centers in the nation for 13 years, and have diagnosed thousands of handgun injuries to the brain, lung, liver, spleen, bowel, and other vital organs. I thought that I knew all that I needed to know about gunshot wounds, but the specific pattern of injury on my computer screen was one that I had seen only once before.

In a typical handgun injury that I diagnose almost daily, a bullet leaves a laceration through an organ like the liver. To a radiologist, it appears as a linear, thin, grey bullet track through the organ. There may be bleeding and some bullet fragments.

I was looking at a CT scan of one of the victims of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, who had been brought to the trauma center during my call shift. The organ looked like an overripe melon smashed by a sledgehammer, with extensive bleeding. How could a gunshot wound have caused this much damage?
The reaction in the emergency room was the same. One of the trauma surgeons opened a young victim in the operating room, and found only shreds of the organ that had been hit by a bullet from an AR-15, a semi-automatic rifle which delivers a devastatingly lethal, high-velocity bullet to the victim. There was nothing left to repair, and utterly, devastatingly, nothing that could be done to fix the problem. The injury was fatal.

A year ago, when a gunman opened fire at the Fort Lauderdale airport with a 9mm semiautomatic handgun, hitting 11 people in 90 seconds, I was also on call. It was not until I had diagnosed the third of the six victims who were transported to the trauma center that I realized something out-of-the-ordinary must have happened. The gunshot wounds were the same low velocity handgun injuries as those I diagnose every day; only their rapid succession set them apart. And all six of the victims who arrived at the hospital that day survived.

Routine handgun injuries leave entry and exit wounds and linear tracks through the victim's body that are roughly the size of the bullet. If the bullet does not directly hit something crucial like the heart or the aorta, and they do not bleed to death before being transported to our care at a trauma center, chances are, we can save the victim. The bullets fired by an AR-15 are different; they travel at higher velocity and are far more lethal. The damage they cause is a function of the energy they impart as they pass through the body. A typical AR-15 bullet leaves the barrel traveling almost three times faster than, and imparting more than three times the energy of, a typical 9mm bullet from a handgun. An AR-15 rifle outfitted with a magazine with 50 rounds allows many more lethal bullets to be delivered quickly without reloading.
What I Saw Treating the Victims From Parkland Should Change the Debate on Guns

From this, I think that unlike a self-defense weapon that simply stops someone, this bullet is designed to reliably kill instead of only stopping. It's not for self-defense, like a shotgun or pistol -- which reliably defend, but instead this gun is intended to kill.

It's for war or murder, either. Not self-defense. People defend their homes, etc., with pistols and shotguns.

Brother, let me tell you, I don't trust the NRA anymore. They are lying, over and over, when they try to suggest that any gun laws is "trying to take our guns away". That's clear lying.

Don't side with lying. But more, don't even allow it to appear as if you are -- this is the instruction to us as Christians in Paul's epistles, that we not even appear to be doing wrong.

The plowshares verse is for the millennium times, not end times, because Jesus will be Our Peace here then.

It appears that one reason this guy slipped through the cracks is that the Obama admin implemented? supported the Promise Act in an effort to keep minority blacks from going to jail/prison for crimes. They get second and third chances without having any record with the police. This guy was included in this effort so he did not have the criminal record he really did have (acts prior to this shooting that would have sent him away somewhere.)

Still haven't heard about why the County Sheriffs stood down (hid as in the OP?) because real brave, real cops from Coral Springs did go in and rescue students. Obviously they are under different regime (City of CS) and acted like they were trained to do: protect communities!

Why didn't they immediately go in and try to stop the shooter, without calling for backup....?

    Why?

I wonder if they could tell from the sound it was an AR-15! See post # 90 just above, and you'll see why that matters.

Exactly. All this talk of "gun grabbing leaving people defenseless" is nonsense. Assault rifles are lousy for home defence anyway. Restrict public gun ownership to shotguns, pistols and bolt-action rifles. More than adequate for defending your home or other "good guy with a gun" fantasies, without enabling mass shooters.

And again - exactly. If people insist on allowing ordinary citizens to have assault rifles, then they should equally insist on proper protections for schools. Barbed wire fences, guard towers, machine guns, trained soldiers.

We don't know the truth yet, why those Deputy Sheriffs' did nothing. The first one, resource officer who resigned is speaking briefly now. He definitely has something to say but looks afraid to say it. I personally think he resigned so the Coward County Sheriff and his cronies could not do anything more to him (no longer an employee.) That his own county police are providing his home and family with armed guard tells me also that he is not a coward....that perhaps there was a stand down order? Believe me, having been associated with law enforcement officers for nearly half my life (federal and state and local) they would NOT be protecting a coward!

What is amazing is the other deputies are not needing such protection---the ones who haven't resigned and yet "hid" from their duties. That is telling, if you ask me.

The faux scenario (one of them?) told to (Some?) students was that the drill would include police shooting at them with blanks.

Did the shooter himself perpetrate that faux scenario. Was the shooter "in on" it, being used by the Sheriff's office to perpetrate this? The armor he was wearing, and the AR 15 are pricey items. Did he inherit money from his mom to buy it all?

    I wonder.

And what do you do when you look out your window and see
looters breaking in and burning all buildings and headed toward
    your house?

Run your family out the back and hope to get away before they
steal or burn everything you own?

I would rather have enough firepower to take out as many as
possible and hopefully scare off those who aren't shot.

See my previous post. I have major problems with

Shot guns are probably the safest home defense weapons.

Number 7 bird shot won't go through the drywall and kill or injure a family member.

I'm sure that by now everyone has seen the Deputy's response. He has stated that when shots were initially fired at the school, he thought the shots were coming from outside the school perimeter. He also said that he saw a body lying on the school athletic field (or playground). This reinforced the impression that the shooter was on a surrounding street, and firing into the school grounds.

IF this story is true, then the man deserves the benefit of the doubt, at least until an official inquiry is completed. But instead he has already been 'judged and convicted' by many people, including the President Of The USA, and a lot of Christians too.

This is a strong reminder of why hate speech, lies and constant threats are such an ugly behavior. There has been an invasion of 'toxic accusations' into America's public speech. I don't believe it has any place in the lives of Christians.

It is all a part of the following:

Luke 21:25 "And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring.."

Isaiah 57:20-21 "But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked."

Seems to me some KIDS were killed.. awful yes. So lets take Chicago... how many died last month? Last 3 months? Last YEAR? What were the ages? This has been going on for years.. where were WE? Not in the news...and DUH can't be because of COLOR right? <---this is truth..

We SAY we care...do we? No one is coming out speaking marching for them. Blood of Jesus.. This is just ONE city.

Not being from America, I find it hard to believe why anyone other than specially-trained law enforcement personnel should be allowed access to assault rifles, etc. A single shot hand gun ought to be enough for defence purposes and would greatly limit how many innocent lives disturbed individuals could take down before they were stopped from their murderous rampage. If you have millions of weapons in circulation, it is inevitable that some are going to fall into the wrong hands. On a wider scale, I believe this is why we are now seeing such mass destruction across the world. God's special planet is awash with weapons of incredible power and it only takes a few to cause so much suffering to so many. It's sort of a cruel irony that mankind, supremely intelligent and capable of fantastic and wonderful things, also chooses to use his intelligence to waste the earth's precious resources to torture and destroy.

It is a sign of the times unfortunately. Lord Jesus said that it would be like the days of Noah in the end times. If we look back in Genesis to see what those times were like, we read:
Gen. 6:5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

So what we are seeing is not anything new.
