LDS For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.

When the Sadducees (who did not believe in the resurrection) asked Jesus a trick question:

“Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies having no children, his brother as next of kin shall marry his wife, and raise up children for his brother.’ Now there were seven brothers with us; and the first married and died, and having no children left his wife to his brother; so also the second, and the third, down to the seventh. Last of all, the woman died. In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had married her.” (Matthew 22:24-28)

    Jesus' answer was:

“You are mistaken, not understanding the Scriptures nor the power of God. For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. (Matthew 22:29-30)

The LDS website makes the following statement as a preface to Doctrine and Covenants 132 (D&C is deemed Scripture by the LDS):

Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Nauvoo, Illinois, recorded July 12, 1843, relating to the new and everlasting covenant, including the eternity of the marriage covenant and the principle of plural marriage. Although the revelation was recorded in 1843, evidence indicates that some of the principles involved in this revelation were known by the Prophet as early as 1831.
How is this LDS doctrine not a contradiction of the teaching of Jesus and evidence that the Latter Day Saints are not the restored church of Jesus?

The Mormon answer is: Marriages must be performed on earth. If the marriage is performed in the temple by the proper authority, it will last throughout eternity just as Adam and Eve's marriage did.

D&C 132 states that those who rejected the doctrine of eternal marriage will be angels instead of gods.

    Romans 7:2 (ESV)
2 For a married woman is bound by law to her husband while he lives, but if her husband dies she is released from the law of marriage.

    1 Corinthians 7:39 (ESV)
39 A wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to be married to whom she wishes, only in the Lord.

Brothers and sisters, I run the risk of being disciplined in the fact that I might be idolizing man, a human being, but it is this exact passage that sometimes gives me a crisis of faith that can severely affect my mood. To be perfectly honest, it is of great pain to me knowing that I will not be joined in matrimony with the woman I've chosen to spend my life with, and that my children will no longer be my children in an earthly sense. I know God has promised things beyond our mere physical, mental, and emotional comprehension in this earthly life, but still it gives me pain. I grew up abused and neglected, and my parents divorced when I was 7. I've had to endure a lot of belittlement, non-acceptance, manipulation, and psychological bombardment from my mum and the relatives on her side because my simple and kind nature is so different from their scheming, calculating, belligerent and materialistic personalities. It's been such a rough battle and though I trust in God to take care of me and pave the way ahead, it is my greatest earthly desire to have a woman that loves me and accepts me with her heart and to have children of my own so I can seek redemption and peace by raising them in grace and faith, to not repeat the mistakes that I was a victim of. I pray as I am typing these words that I will not provoke them to anger, but to raise them and care for them in the Lord so that they will never have to go through all that I've had to go through just to establish myself as myself. I know God created me to be different because even as a child and teenager I was already demonstrating myself to be separate from the ways of those around me who are in no way, good moral influences.

If you and them are born again with the real Jesus, you will have fellowship with them in Heaven. If not, you will be with them in the other place.

Well let's not hope it will be at the other place. Perhaps I should seek God's wisdom to give me righteousness and cast away my fears, so I can live day to day and trust that God will give me and my loved ones (if they are saved) greater things we have never thought about. Amen.
