I volunteered to help with a Food Bank for a year some time ago. People were referred to it from social services and help agencies and were offered food essentials from the Food Bank that had been collected from donors. Prayer and counsel was also offered for those who wanted to receive it. What experience have you with Food Banks?

I was a part of a inner city mission church. We served lunch one day a week and we distributed food. Sometimes we were able to get people to get active in the church services. A big part of the service during communion was to pray for people for healing and for whatever needs they wanted prayer for.

It is a national tragedy that we need them, but I have so much respect for those who volunteer their time to help out those who need to use them.

In our church we have a collection point for our local Food Bank. The church recently donated over 500 goats

for Zimbabwe. Thankfully people did'nt have them brought to church!

Our church was a distribution site and I helped. Unfortunately after about a year, due to the way they calculated what areas got the Food Bank goods, the stock had fallen so it wasn't worth the recipients' car gas to come and collect. Our small church couldnt afford to buy the food but financed some special meals.

Camels? That's amazing.

Our food bank holds collections at the supermarkets. People can donate food when they shop
Yes, the same here...great idea, there is a permanent bin in Morrisons.

Today listening to a dr who said research (after considering those who smoke and baseline health) shows that people who volunteer live longer, stay out of nursing homes longer, are less depressed, have less disability, and less dementia compared to those who dont volunteer. Who knew? I thought we were just trying to help others.
