If they're using a heartbeat as their justification, I would think it's at least implied.

Although, given Texas's love affair with capital punishment, they've got no problem with letting the state stop heartbeats.

The definition of "person" is used in many, many circumstances. For legal purposes, the definition cannot be implied. As you point out, such a definition would have far reaching consequences.

Actually, Texas has no problem with justly putting to death those who takes other’s lives. The problem is that they don’t do it enough.

Well, the dog and pony show involved in decreeing who deserves to die takes time.

Perhaps Texas can streamline the process to provided more blessed deaths?

When the state put out a $10K bounty on anyone even tangentially involved in abortion, it seems unlikely that "consequences" weighed heavily in their thinking.

Instead, in 1973, the Republicans made this their #1 issue, and understood that it would take a very conservative majority in the Supreme Court for them to win their fight. Now, the fight is all but over.
This isn’t correct, the opposition to Roe wasn’t a galvanizing feature of the religious-right until circa 1980.

It should be interesting to see how this law stands up to a religious challenge:

That being said, the federal government can pass and strength laws that effect voting rights and civil rights. But make no mistake, the Court is unlikely allow abortions after 13 weeks (or the current 8 for Texas) just because white folks are more likely to be able to cross state lines.

And you were doing so well up until the reader got to your conclusion.

1st amendment doesn't cover murder under the guise of religious freedoms.

and when it overturned, then you won't take the political definition?

When it's overturned, we can roll out those mask and vaccine mandates.... and that's just the start.

Maybe we're not so far off track after all. Good job Texas. Finally standing up for the rights of the most vulnerable people.
No, they are once again hurting women. Pregnant women are the vulnerable PEOPLE.

I know. But if it saves lives for now, it will have to do.

Well, a moment ago, you were cheering on the state ending lives. A little consistency, if you please?

Thats the reaction I expect will come from those who will push the MARK.

If you've already assented to spying on your neighbors and reporting them to the state for money... at this point, does it really matter what you report them for?
