They have a licorice flavor and I despise licorice.

I just made a recipe that calls for them. Hubby likes the fennel. I do not like it. Try picking fennel seeds out of your dish. Not fun.
I love licorice but have never had fennel seed
I have always wanted to try it. Does it look like a star. What part do you eat to get the licorice taste. I can't stand it in italian sausage and always ask if it is in a pizza I order with sausage. It seems a common question to the pizza houses so I guess it is or isn't popular.

Oh wow, I have never seen that before. What then is the star shaped woody looking thing they sell in the vegy section. Maybe that is anise? I am getting confused.
Maybe your pic is of the seeds that come out of the star pods?

The star shape is anise which has a similar flavor if I’m not mistaken.

Oh there it is, yes, anise is very much licorice flavor I have been told. That's interesting. That they would have two sources.

Well I’m curious but not sure what you are referring to.

They make a anise liquor that is delicious. At least years ago, lol.
When we were in grade school we used to chew on cinnamon sticks or we would buy cinnamon oil and soak tooth pics in it. Those were the good old days, lol
