Some interesting info on Southwell Minster 1. Southwell Minster

Southwell Minster - YouTube

Thank you. Southwell Minster is relatively unknown outside of England, especially among architectural historians. I think the primary reason is the very extensive late Victorian restoration which completely reconstructed the roof and vaulting, as well as the tower spires. Here is the Wikipedia entry for Southwell Minster - Southwell Minster - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Southwell Minster (also a cathedral), of course, is not to be confused with Soouthwark Cathedral in London which, interestingly, is one of the newest cathedrals even though its building is Gothic in style with excellent flintwork. I had the pleasure of visiting it in 1987. Here is the Wikipedia entry for Southwark Cathedral - Southwark Cathedral - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Here is a lovely video which shows much of the interior. SOUTHWARK CATHEDRAL-BEFORE THE THRONE OF GOD ABOUVE {WITH SUBTITLES} - YouTube

I just discovered that Beijing, China has not one, not two, but three Roman Catholic cathedrals. i am perplexed as to why it has three when a city such as New York City has only one. They are logically called, North, South, and East Cathedrals, although they also have much more formal Catholic titles. Here are the Wikipedia links for them -

North Cathedral, the oldest of the three, constructed in 1890 in the Gothic Revival style - Xishiku Cathedral - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

South Cathedral, constructed in 1904 in a neo-Baroque style - Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Beijing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

East Cathedral, also constructed in 1904 in a neo-Baroque style. This was the first church established in China. - Wangfujing Cathedral - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Just stumbled across this whilst in a wikipedia spiral of doom.

All Saints' Church, Brixworth - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

All Saints' Church, Brixworth, has been called "perhaps the most imposing architectural memorial of the 7th century yet surviving north of the Alps".

There's a picture of the interior and some other pictures of ancient Churches near the bottom of the page: Early English Architecture: The Buildings of the Anglo-Saxons, 450 CE to 1066

The Chancel above is very "Reformed" in lay-out... but strange as it may seem, the south transept is a Chapel with an Ad Orientem Altar:confused:; not what one would expect in a Reformed Protestant Church... sorry, no photo; but here are some more of the interior: Knox, Stratford, Ont. | Presbyterian Record
