Dr. Anthony Fauci couldn’t cite any studies that changed his mind about masking against COVID-19 during a recent deposition, according to lawyers who were in the room.

Fauci, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) director, was among the U.S. officials repeatedly urging people to not wear a mask early in the COVID-19 pandemic unless they were showing symptoms. Among his many public and private statements, he wrote in a Feb. 5, 2020, email that “the typical mask you buy in the drug store is not really effective in keeping out virus, which is small enough to pass through the material.”

About two months later, Fauci and other top officials reversed course and issued widespread masking recommendations, regardless of symptoms.

Asked about the change while under oath on Nov. 23, Fauci couldn’t provide any studies, according to lawyers representing plaintiffs in a case against the federal government.

The preponderance of evidence indicates that mask wearing reduces transmissibility per contact by reducing transmission of infected respiratory particles in both laboratory and clinical contexts.

Took me 15 seconds. Granted, I couldn't cite it off the top of my head, but I knew there were lots of studies like this. I imagine Dr. Fauci was at least as aware as I am.

CDC lists 10 studies that show that masks are effective in slowing the spread of Covid-19 and those are the ones I found with a quick Google search.

Turns out, even "drug store masks" are pretty effective at protecting others from people infected with COVID-19. They are somewhat effective at protecting the wearer as well.

That's what he was saying. Even then, it was known that masks work better for protecting others than for protecting one's self.

Fauci Said Masks 'Not Really Effective in Keeping Out Virus,' Email Reveals

Dr. Fauci was pointing out that the masks didn't protect wearers very much. This is why surgeons wear masks; not for themselves, but for patients. However, subsequent studies showed that the masks were at least somewhat effective in stopping incoming virus particles due to electrostatic and Van der Wals effects.

His advice was pretty good. As he said, people with COVID-19 symptoms should wear masks. Remember, the research shows that it keeps the virus in, but isn't so good at keeping it out. So you wear a mask to protect others. Subsequent research has shown that the masks do provide some protection for the wearer, but not as much as it protects others.

maybe stop a big drop..
And now you realize why.

Where did the education system go so wrong in teaching how to think instead of just accepting what was heard at the barber shop?

It's counter-intuitive; how can a mask with spaces larger than the virus, catch virus particles? It's because they tend to adhere to any fibers they touch. It's not like catching fish in a net.

Are the far right still going after Faucci and masks??

I do wish people would educate themselves. In particular the difference between spreading the disease and catching the disease, as well as understanding the situation that USA was in when Faucci was recommending people not rush out and get masks. i.e. short supply of masks and only a handful of people in a country of 330 million having the disease.
