The other man in the picture, shaking Russell Mean's hand, is Bishop John Armstrong of the United Methodist Church. He presented a proposal to the leaders of AIM, including Russell Means and Dennis Banks, for further negotiations with the United States government.

Boulevard du Temple, Paris , taken by Louis Daguerrein late 1838, was the first-ever photograph of a person. It is an image of a busy street, but because exposure time was over ten minutes, the city traffic was moving too much to appear. The exception is a man in the bottom left corner, who stood still getting his boots polished long enough to show up in the picture......

Apollo 8, the first manned mission to the moon, entered lunar orbit on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, 1968. That evening, the astronauts-Commander Frank Borman, Command Module Pilot Jim Lovell, and Lunar Module Pilot William Anders-held a live broadcast from lunar orbit, in which they showed pictures of the Earth and moon as seen from their spacecraft. Said Lovell, "The vast loneliness is awe-inspiring and it makes you realize just what you have back there on Earth." They ended the broadcast with the crew taking turns reading from the book of Genesis.

Roger Fenton (20 March 1819 – 8 August 1869) was a pioneering British photographer, one of the first war photographers. In 1855 Fenton went to the Crimean War on assignment for the publisher Thomas Agnew to photograph the troops, with a photographic assistant Marcus Sparling and a servant and a large van of equipment. Despite high temperatures, breaking several ribs, and suffering from cholera, he managed to make over 350 usable large format negatives. An exhibition of 312 prints was soon on show in London......

George Gillette, chairman of the Fort Berthold Indian Tribal Council, weeps as he watches Secretary of the Interior A.J. King sign the Pick Sloan Flood Control Act on May 20, 1948. Excerpt from the WikiPedia article: Flood Control Act of 1944: The act transferred ownership of large parcels of land from around the Missouri River, more than 20% of which was owned by Native Americans, to the Corps of Engineers. The Lakota, Dakota and Nakota tribes lost 202,000 acres (820 km2). The Three Affiliated Tribes, specifically, lost 155,000 acres (630 km2) in their Fort Berthold Reservation due to the building of the Garrison Dam. This project caused more than 1,500 American Indians to relocate from the river bottoms of the Missouri river due to the flooding.

Richard and Mildred Loving whose interracial marriage in Virginia was not considered legal . Taking their case to the Supreme Court in 1967 , the Supreme Court's unanimous decision determined that this prohibition was unconstitutional , ending all race-based legal restrictions on marriage in the USA......

The walk of purpose: Gandhiji begins the Dandi March on 12th March, 1930.
Also called Salt Satyagraha, the march was a protest against the British salt monopoly in colonial India. It also widened the Civil Disobedience Movement.
