NAIROBI, Kenya — A Muslim couple and their adult son who received Christ in November were burned to death on Dec. 26 in eastern Uganda, sources said.

In the Budini Nyanza area of Kaliro town, Kaliro District, 64-year-old Kaiga Muhammad, his wife, Sawuya Kaiga, and their son, Swagga Amuza Kaiga, 26, had put their faith in Christ on Nov. 22, 2024, when members of an undisclosed church visited their home and shared the Gospel.

The pastor of the church, undisclosed for security reasons, said that after the three family members received Christ’s salvation, they requested prayer for Swagga Amuza Kaiga, who was suffering from malaria.

The article in the OP originated from Morning Star News. I started a thread back in April of last year that can be found here that gives several examples of how Morning Star News takes tragic stories from far-flung parts of the world unrelated to religion and twists them into stories of Christian persecution. Unfortunately, mainstream Christian sources like Christian Post share these manufactured stories of persecution, leading many people to believe they are true.

The tragic incident mentioned in the OP actually took place on December 9th, not the 26th, and was over a long-standing land dispute according to local reporting. Warning: the first link contains a disturbing image.

KALIRO: Mob Burns Family of Three to Death inside House over Land Conflict

The police in Kaliro have arrested the LC I chairman of Budini Nyanza Zone and three other residents to assist in investigating the alleged murder by arson of a 64-year-old man, his wife, and son.

The deceased have been identified as Kaiga Muhammad, his wife (whose name is not yet known), and Swagga Amuza (26). They were residents of Budini Nyanza Zone, Kaliro Town Council.

According to ASP Michael Kasadha, preliminary investigations suggest that on the morning of December 9, 2024, Kaiga instructed his son, Swagga, to slash around their mango garden. While he was working, he was attacked by a group of residents from the same area.

It should be noted that there has been a long-standing conflict over the ownership of the land in question, and a meeting was scheduled for that day to resolve the issue, but it ended in violence.

The article in the OP says: "On Dec. 15, area Muslims noted Muhammad leaving the church’s worship service in a nearby village and informed area chairperson Wangule Abudu. The chairperson on Dec. 16 went to Muhammad’s home to question him, and Muhammad openly told him that he and other family members had given their lives to Christ, the pastor said."

That's not possible since Kaiga Muhammad had been killed several days earlier according to local reporting.

Life for Christians

Christian converts from Islam face family pressure and harassment from their Muslim communities. A number of young people who converted to Christianity have been severely beaten and injured by parents or community members. Pastors and churches have been attacked, and some converts have even been killed after their faith became known. The children of families who leave Islam are no longer welcome at school. In some places, laws are passed to limit the spread of Christianity or appropriate church land.
