Lately as I read thru Ezekiel 22, I actually envisioned it as being Jerusalem 70ad.

This almost sounds like what happens when an "atomic bomb" is dropped on a city.
What is this prophecy about if not about 1st century Jerusalem? Discuss...

    Ezekiel 22:
1 And there is a word of Yahweh unto me, saying, 2 ‘And thou, son of adam! dost thou judge? dost thou judge the City of blood? then thou hast caused it to know all its abominations,
17 And there is a word of Yahweh unto me, saying, ‘Son of adam!18 The House of Israel hath been to Me for dross, All of them [are] brass, and tin, and iron, and lead, In the midst of a furnace — dross hath silver been,

19 Therefore, thus said Adonay Yahweh: Because of your all becoming dross, Therefore, behold!
I am gathering you unto the midst of Jerusalem,
20 A gathering of silver, and brass, and iron, and lead, and tin, Unto the midst of a furnaceto blow on it fire, to melt it, So do I gather in Mine anger and in My fury, And I have let rest, and have melted you.
21 And I have heaped you up, And blown on you in the fire of My wrath<5678>, And ye have been melted<5413> in its midst.

22 As the melting of silver in the midst of a furnace, So are ye melted in its midst, And ye have known that I, Yahweh, I have poured out My fury<2534> upon you.’

    Ezekiel 24
6 Therefore, thus said the Adonay Yahweh:
Woe to the City of blood, A pot whose scum is in it, And its scum hath not come out of it, By piece of it, by piece of it bring it out, Not fallen on it hath a lot.
9 Therefore, thus said the Adonay Yahweh:
Woe to the City of blood, yea, I -- I make great the pile.
    Habukkuk 2:12
Woe to him who is building a City by blood, And establishing a city by iniquity.

    Matthew 23:30
“and say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.'
    Luke 11:50
“that the blood of all the prophets which was shed from the foundation of the world may be required of this generation,

Last time "city and blood" are mentioned together in a verse:

    Revelation 14:20
And the winepress was trampled outside the City, and blood came out of the winepress, up to the horses' bridles, for one thousand six hundred furlongs.

Very interesting. It does seem to line up, but I haven't really studied this Ezekiel prophecy. They say it was likely written during the Babylonian captivity almost 600 years before Christ.

I don't think so. There is a lot of history of Jerusalem being sacked because of their pagan behaviors.

I looked up where these metals are used together in other verses:
    Ezekiel 22:
17 And there is a word of Yahweh unto me, saying, ‘Son of adam!18 The House of Israel hath been to Me for dross, All of them [are] brass/bronze, and tin, and iron, and lead, In the midst of a furnace — dross hath silver been,
19 Therefore, thus said Adonay Yahweh: Because of your all becoming dross, Therefore, behold! I am gathering you unto the midst of Jerusalem, 20 A gathering of silver, and brass/bronze, and iron, and lead, and tin, Unto the midst of a furnace — to blow on it fire, to melt it
    ,

    And found these verses

"silver" AND "iron" AND "bronze" (NKJV)

4 verses in Daniel including this one" [all shown in Revelation 18]

    Daniel 2:45
“Inasmuch as you saw that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold—the great God has made known to the king what will come to pass after this. The dream is certain, and its interpretation is sure.”

1 verse used together in the NT; The great City/Harlot/Mystery Babylon, [which I and many preterists view as 1st century Jerusalem. ]

    Wasn't this prophecied before 70ad?

Matthew 23:37 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her!
Luke 13:34 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her!

Wasn't Solomon's/Herod's Temple and Sanctuary furnished with these metals?

    Revelation 18:
12 “merchandise of gold and silver, precious stones and pearls, fine linen and purple, silk and scarlet, every kind of citron wood, every kind of object of ivory, every kind of object of most precious wood, bronze, iron, and marble
16 “and saying, ‘Alas, alas, that great City that was clothed in fine linen, purple, and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls!

    Ezekiel 27:12
“Tarshish was your merchant because of your many luxury goods.
They gave you silver, iron, tin, and lead for your goods.

    1Chronocles 22:14
“Indeed I have taken much trouble to prepare for the house of the LORD one hundred thousand talents of gold and one million talents of silver, and bronze and iron beyond measure, for it is so abundant.
I have prepared timber and stone also, and you may add to them.

hmm... I don't think those other verses regarding metals are related because they're not referring to all of the same metals.

The more I study on this, the more "shock and awe" I get...

    Ezekiel 22:

19 Therefore, thus said Adonay Yahweh: Because of your all becoming dross, Therefore, behold! I am gathering<6908> you unto the midst of Jerusalem......

Strong's Concordance with Hebrew and Greek Lexicon

6908 qabats a primitive root; occurs 136 times in 121 verses
to grasp, i.e. collect:--assemble (selves), gather (bring) (together, selves together, up), heap, resort, X surely, take up.

The verses containing #6908 appear to mainly pertain to Israel and Judah[which retained the priesthood of Levi]

This is a prophecy made concerning the "last days" for Israel upon the arrival of John the Baptist and Jesus centuries later!

    Genesis 1:1 (NKJV)
"last days"occurs 6 times in 6 verses in the NKJV.

    Genesis 49:2

1 And Jacob called his sons and said, “be gathered ye!<622>, that I may tell you what shall befall you in the last days:
2 “Gather together<6908> and hear, you sons of Jacob,
And listen to Israel your father.

    NT verses:
    Acts 2:17
‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God,
    That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh;

    Hebrews 1:2
has in these last days spoken to us by His Son,
    whom He has appointed Heir of all things, through Whom also He made the worlds;

The equivalent Greek word is #4863

    4863. sunago from 4862 and 71; [occurs 73 times in 62 verses]
to lead together, i.e. collect or convene; specially, to entertain (hospitably):--+ accompany, assemble (selves, together), bestow, come together, gather (selves together, up, together), lead into, resort, take in.

    1st time used Matthew 2:4.
[Ironically, it is the same "brood of vipers" that John the baptist condemned to "wrath" and Jesus condemned to "gehenna"]

    Matthew 2:4
And when he had gathered-together<4863> all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born.

    Matthew 3:7

But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, “Brood of vipers!
Who warned you to flee from the being about wrath to come?
    Luke 3:7
Then he said to the multitudes that came out to be baptized by him, “Brood of vipers!
Who warned you to flee from the being about wrath to come?
    Matthew 23:33
    Serpents, brood of vipers!
How may ye escape the judging of the gehenna?

The "gehenna" appears to match up with the "furnace of fire" in this passage?:

    Ezekiel 22:
19 Therefore, thus said 'Adonay Yahweh:
Because of your all becoming dross,
Therefore, behold! I am gathering ye unto the midst of Jerusalem,
20 A gathering of silver, and brass, and iron, and lead, and tin, Unto the midst of a furnaceto blow on it fire, to melt it,
So do I gather in Mine wrath and in My fury, And I have let rest, and have melted you.

Notice that it talks about "melting" not "destroying". This lines up with another study that I've been working on. (more on that later ;))

Ezekiel 22:21 And I have heaped you up, And blown on you in the fire of My wrath<5678>, And ye have been melted<5413> in its midst.
    Yes it does.......
I looked up the hebrew word #5413 and wow!
It is used 2 times in Daniel:

Strong's Concordance with Hebrew and Greek Lexicon

5413 nathak a primitive root; .......occurs 21 times in 19 verses
to flow forth (literally or figuratively); by implication, to liquify:--drop, gather (together), melt, pour (forth, out).

    Daniel 9:
    11 “Yes, all Israel has transgressed Your law, and has departed so as not to obey Your voice;
therefore the curse and the oath written in the Law of Moses the servant of God have been poured out<5413> on us, because we have sinned against Him.
    27 Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week;
But in the middle of the week
He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.
And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate,
Even until the consummation, which is determined,
Is poured out<5413> on the desolate.”

    Nahum 1:6
Who can stand before His indignation?
And who can endure the fierceness of His anger?
His fury is poured out<5413> like fire,
And the rocks are thrown down by Him.

    1632. ekcheo (by variation) ekchuno ek-khoo'-no from 1537 and cheo (to pour);
to pour forth; figuratively, to bestow:--gush (pour) out, run greedily (out), shed (abroad, forth), spill.
    G1632 occurs 28 times in 28 verses

It is used in 3 verses concerning old and new wine-skins:

    Luke 5:37
"And no one is casting young<3501> wine into OLD[OC]<3820> skins, if yet no surely shall be ruined the young wine of the skins,
and it shall be being poured-out<1632> and its skin shall be perishing.
38 but young wine into NEW[NC]<2537> skins is to be cast and both are preserved together.
39 And no one drinking OLD immediately is willing YOUNG, for he is saying, 'the OLD is kind/mellow'".
    [Matthew 9:17 Mark 2:22]

    Last verse used:

    Revelation 16:17
Then the seventh Messenger poured out<1632> His bowl into the air,
and a loud Voice came out of the Sanctuary of the Heaven from the throne, saying, “It is done!”

I wouldn't say 70 AD, because in spite of their rejection of Jesus, which caused them to be sent into the nations for 2000 years, coming back from the Babylonian exile they had learned their lesson not to make idols.

In Ezekiel 22:3-4, they are guilty of making idols.

3 Then say thou, Thus saith the Lord GOD, The city sheddeth blood in the midst of it, that her time may come, and maketh idols against herself to defile herself.

4 Thou art become guilty in thy blood that thou hast shed; and hast defiled thyself in thine idols which thou hast made; and thou hast caused thy days to draw near, and art come even unto thy years: therefore have I made thee a reproach unto the heathen, and a mocking to all countries.

Only the southern House of Judah, the Jews, came back from from the Babylon exile.
The northern House of Israel still remained scattered.

Then in 70ad the Jews were once again scattered but nothing is mentioned of the norther house of Israel.

Did the Apostles mean the divorced House of Israel here?

    Acts 1:6

The-ones indeed then coming together, asked Him saying, `Lord!, if in to-the time, this, you are restoring the Kingdom to Israel?'

What kind of Kingdom are these 10 kings expecting and why are they hating the "Harlot/Queen"?

    Revelation 17:
12 And the ten horns which you saw, ten kings are, who any a-Kingdom not-yet received, but authority as kings, one hour they are receiving with the beast,
16 And the ten horns which you perceived, and the beast, these shall be hating the Harlot, and desolate they shall be making her and naked.
And the fleshes of her they shall be eating, and they shall be burning Her in fire.

The kingdom of the ten kings is the fourth kingdom. It is in Daniel 7:23-24.

The fourth kingdom is the Roman Empire. In the end times, that kingdom is the EU. The ten kings and the person, as the little horn and then later as the beast, are of the EU.

In part, it appears as though the harlot is the RCC, the Vatican. Which historically the kings of Europe and the Vatican have been in bed with each other figuratively speaking, mutually benefiting.

However, when the person becomes the beast that last 42 months, he will be considered God by the ten kings, who pledge their EU kingdom to him.

The rub will be because the Vatican will have the position that Jesus is God - that will be unacceptable to the beast and his ten king group. Which the Vatican will have to be eliminated - burned to the ground, and the leaders probably done away with.
    _________________________________________________________

To make sense of all this, it is critical to understand that the prophecies
detail the person as both the 7th and 8th king of the Roman Empire - and the king of Israel - for a short time in between, as the Jews will be taken in that he is their messiah.

I made a chart showing this - king of the Roman Empire, king of Israel,
king of the Roman Empire again progression.. Perhaps I should annotate that the transgression of desolation is the 2Thessalonians2:4 act.[IMG]

Well, the denarius is mentioned in Revelation, but then so are horses and chariots which I would think are a bit outdated for present day Rome and Europe.....

    John 11:48

"If-ever we may be be letting Him thus, all shall be believing in Him.
And shall be coming the Romans and they shall be taking away of Us and the Place and the Nation

    Revelation 6:6
And I hear a voice in midst of the four living-ones saying: "choinex of grain/wheat a denari and three choinex of barleys a denari, and the oil and the wine no you should be injuring"."

Wow.....I've not read this passage in light of the "last days". Amazing the thread that's woven all throughout the Bible.

In Jacob's final blessing to his sons - the emphasis seems to be on this (v. 18):

    Genesis 49:18 ~ I await Your salvation, O LORD.

    Interesting.

Peter uses the same word "parousia" as does Jesus in the 1st century Temple/Jerusalem discourse.

    Matthew 24, Mark 13 and Luke's Temple/Jerusalem Discourses harmonized

    Matthew 24:3
Yet of Him sitting on the Mount of the Olives, the Disciples came toward to Him according to own saying "be telling to us! when shall these be being?
and what the sign of Thy parousia<3952> and full-end<4930> of the Age?

2 Peter 3:10 and it will come -- the day of the Lord -- as a thief in the night, in which the heavens with a rushing noise will pass away, and the elements with burning heat be dissolved, and earth and the works in it shall be burnt up. 12 - waiting for and hasting to the parousia<3952> of the day of God, by which the heavens, being on fire, shall be dissolved, and the elements with burning heat shall melt
    2 Peter 3:10

    Meyer's NT Commentary
2 Peter 3:10 στοιχεῖα δὲ καυσούμενα λυθήσονται] στοιχεῖα cannot refer to the so-called four elements, “inasmuch as the dissolving of fire by means of fire is unthinkable” (Brückner), and it is arbitrary to limit the idea to three (Hornejus), or to two (Estius) elements; as now the position of the words shows that the expression has reference neither to the earth afterwards named, nor to the world as made up of heaven and earth (Pott: elementa totius mundi tam coeli quam terrae; thus, too, Brückner: “the primary substances of which the world, as an organism, is composed;” similarly Wiesinger, Schott), it must be understood of the constituent elements of the heavens, corresponding to the expression: αἱ δυνάμεις τῶν οὐρανῶν, Isaiah 34:4; Matthew 24:29 (cf. Meyer in loc.). This view is justified by the circumstance that in the preceding οἱ οὐρανοὶ … παρελεύσονται no mention has as yet been made of the destruction of heaven and earth by fire. At variance with this view, Hofmann understands the expression στοιχεῖα here as a designation of the stars, arbitrarily asserting that στοιχεῖα “cannot be only original component parts, but must also be prominent points which dominate that by which they are surrounded,”—appealing to Justin (Apolog. ii. c. 5, and Dial. c. Tr. c. 23), who speaks of the stars as στοιχεῖα οὐράνια. To this view it may be objected, that the author could not picture to himself a burning of the stars, which appeared to him as fiery bodies; neither do any of the corresponding passages of Scripture allude to this.

    Pulpit Commentary
Verse 10. - But the day of the Lord will come. The word ἥξει, will come, stands emphatically at the beginning of the clause; whatever the mockers may say, whatever may happen, come certainly will the day of the Lord. "The day of the Lord" meets us often in the prophets; it is usually associated with the thought of judgment (see Isaiah 2:12; Ezekiel 13:5; Joel 1:15; Malachi 3:2). In the New Testament it signifies the second advent of Christ (1 Thessalonians 5:2; 1 Corinthians 1:8; Philippians 1:6; 2 Thessalonians 2:2). As a thief in the night. The best manuscripts omit here "in the night." St. Peter is evidently echoing the Lord's words in that great prophetic discourse on the Mount of Olives, which must have made such a deep impression upon the apostles. This illustration of the sudden coming of the thief is repeated not only by St. Peter here, but also by St. Paul (1 Thessalonians 5:2), and twice by St. John (Revelation 3:3 and Revelation 16:15). In the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise. The Greek for "with a great noise (ῤοιζηδόν)" occurs nowhere else in the New Testament, and is one of those remarkable poetic forms which are not unfrequent in this Epistle: the noun ῤοῖζος is used of the whizzing of arrows, of the rush of wings, of the sound of mighty winds or roaring waters.
It may be understood here of the crash of a falling world or of the roar of the destroying flames. The word rendered "pass away" is that used by our Lord in the prophecy just referred to (Matthew 24:35; also in Matthew 5:18 and in Luke 16:17). And the elements shall melt with fervent heat. It is uncertain whether by "the elements" (στοιχεῖα) St. Peter means the four elements (in the old and popular use of the word), or the great constituent parts of the universe, the heavenly bodies. Against the first view is the assertion that one of those elements is to be the agent of destruction. But the word rendered "melt" means "shall be dissolved" or "loosed;" and it may be, as Bishop Wordsworth says, that "St. Peter's meaning seems to be that the στοιχεῖα, elements or rudiments, of which the universe is composed and compacted, will be loosed; that is, the framework of the world will be disorganized; and this is the sense of στοιχεῖα in the LXX. (Wisd. 7:17 Wisd. 19:17) and in Hippolytus, 'Philos.,' pages 219, 318. The dissolution is contrasted with the consistency described by the word συνεστῶσα in verse 5. The heavens are reserved for fire, and will pass away with a rushing noise, and, being set on fire, will be dissolved; the elements will be on fire and melt, and he reduced to a state of confusion; the earth and the works therein will be burnt up.
There does not seem, therefore, to be any cause for abandoning the common meaning of στοιχεῖα, the elemental principles of which the universe is made." On the other hand, the word στοιχεῖα is certainly used of the heavenly bodies by Justin Martyr ('Apolog.,' 2. c. 5, and 'Dial. cum Tryphon,' c. 23); and the heavenly bodies are constantly mentioned in the descriptions of the awful convulsions of the great day (Matthew 24:29; Mark 13:24; Luke 21:25; Acts 2:20; Revelation 6:12, etc.).
The objection that the word does not bear this meaning elsewhere in Holy Scripture is of little weight, as this is the only place in which it has a physical sense. The literal translation of the clause is, "The elements, being scorched, shall be dissolved." The word for "being scorched" (καυσούμενα) occurs in the New Testament only here and in verse 12; it is used by the Greek physicians of the burning heat of fever. The verb λυθήσεται means "shall be dissolved or loosened." The earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. By "the works that are therein" St. Peter seems to mean all the works both of God and of man, "opera naturae et artis" (Bengel). There is a very remarkable reading here (supported by the Sinaitic and Vatican and another uncial manuscript), εὑρεθήσεται, "shall be discovered," instead of κατακαήσεται, "shall be burned up." If we understand "the works that are therein" of man's works and actions, this reading will give a good sense (comp. 1 Corinthians 3:13, "Every man's work shall be made manifest, for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work, of what sort it is"). Or the clause may be regarded as interrogative, "Shall the earth and the works that are therein be found?" But the reading, "shall be burned up" is well supported, and suits the context best.

Ezekiel 22:15-16 I will disperse you Israelites among the nations, scattered over all the earth. I shall sift you to get rid of your defilement. Deut. 29:28, Amos 9:9-10
The exile of Israel and Judah from the Holy Land was done in ancient times. Throughout the ages, righteous people have kept the faith and shone the light of the Gospel around the world and now we look expectantly for the fulfilment of the wonderful promises to all those who love the Lord and keep His commandments.

Ezekiel 22:17-22 To the Lord, all of the House of Israel are but a debased alloy. So I shall gather you all into the Holy Land, as metal is refined in a crucible. I will fan the fire of My anger and wrath until you are melted. You will know that I the Lord, have poured out My anger upon you. Isaiah 41:1-10

This forthcoming fire judgement will affect the whole world, then as:

Ezekiel 20:34-38...I shall take you Israelites out of the nations.....gather you and judge you....those who rebel against Me will not enter the Land. Deuteronomy 30:1-10

Ezekiel 22:24 The Lord says to the land of Israel: You have become like a land on which no rain has fallen, on the Day of My wrath. Zephaniah 1:18, Ezekiel 20:47-48

The Holy Land becomes ‘scorched and untrodden’ - Jeremiah 9:10-11, Hosea 4:3

Joel 1:15-20…dry and ruined, for fire has burned the trees and pastures’.

Ezekiel 22:25-29 The leaders in the land are like lions that take what they want and the priests give rulings that violate My Laws, they profane what is sacred. The people do not keep My Sabbaths in truth and God is dishonored among them. Their prophets and seers speak lies and the common people use extortion and commit robbery, oppressing the poor and the alien, denying them justice.
This is the situation worldwide, but particularly in all the area of the Holy Land. Jeremiah 25:29-30, Isaiah 22:12-14, Ezekiel 7:2-4]

Ezekiel 22:30-31 The Lord searches for anyone righteous who could stand before Him and plead for the people, to avert the destruction of the Land, but no such person can be found. Ezekiel 6:11-12
So the Lord will pour out His wrath upon them and utterly consume them in His blazing anger, thus bringing down upon them the punishment they deserve.
Ref: REB, NIV. Some verses abridged.

The terrible Day of the Lord’s vengeance and wrath, in His blazing anger:
This Day is described over 100 times in the Bible and is clearly prophesied to be a Coronal Mass Ejection; an explosion on the suns surface. Isaiah 30:26....the sun will shine seven times stronger….. Psalms 50:1-6, Malachi 4:1, 2 Peter 3:7

All that area of the holy Land will be cleared and cleansed, including Jerusalem, Deuteronomy 32:43, Zephaniah 1:14-18, Jeremiah 10:18, and after that many prophecies say how the Land will be quickly regenerated, then how all the Lord’s faithful Christian people will gather and settle there. Great will be the Day!
