Early expeditions to the Holy Land located an Arab place called Choriza. Scholars thought this might be the Chorazin Jesus mentioned in the Gospels. It is about two miles uphill from Capernaum (Kephr Nahum) called Tel Hum when 19th century explorers arrived. Years of excavations at Chorazin did not find artifacts earlier than the third century. Recent excavations at the synagogue revealed a first century synagogue podium below the later synagogue floor. This YouTube video shows the Israeli archaeologist in charge of recent excavations describing the discovery of first century artifacts.
