Many of my FB friends that are evangelicals and several that even go to my church are all of a sudden sharing FB posts on the Enneagram. I have not said anything to them but I'm very suspicious of the Enneagram as I used to be involved in New Age/Occult, etc, back in the late 70's and through the 80's until I recommitted my life to Christ in the late 80's at a Calvary Chapel. At that point I renounced all my New age stuff, thrown out, thrown in the fire, etc including books, tarot cards UFO books, etc. I was not as heavy into it as some of my friends,(Wicca, Etc) but I was a believer, especially in the Ancient Aliens thing. My road back to conservative Christianity was a long one but I did do a 180 and my eyes were opened to the "Source" of all these things. I am very suspicious of things in the Church that smack of "New Age" or Occultism, and to me this does, although it could be harmless.. Does Orthodoxy have a stance or statement against the Enneagram? I have been able to find some in Catholicism, although not official, on Catholic Answers and a paper written in 2000 by the RCC. The members of my own Church look at it as a personality too(sort of like Myers Briggs which I have used ) and I doubt they realize it's possible occult roots.(I think my pastor would be against it) The research shows that it's not as ancient as it's creators claim(They claim roots in the Desert Fathers, etc. ) My Pastor hasn't spoken up yet but I can't believe he'd like it, he's very old School.
As I said, a search has not been able to find out anything Orthodoxy would have to say about it, although I just got done reading two books, A few months ago Fr. Seraphim Rose's book "Orthodoxy and the Religion" of the future, and "The second Coming of the New Age" written by two evangelicals. I don't know why but I felt led to read these two books. The Father Rose book was excellent, and the second book was very informative too. The second book, written a couple of years ago by two former adherents to the New AGE, are now warning how it is infiltrating our churches.
Anyway, thoughts?
