• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So I question the use of "works" as a standard for determining truth. And you say, "hey, show me how your perspective works."

You prefer a method for determining truth which demonstrably doesn't work to determine truth? OK, but don't be surprised if people don't take you very seriously.

Hey, you're the one questioning whether "works to reliably produce useful knowledge" is a good test of a systems which is alleged to produce knowledge. It's not a logical fallacy to explore the implications of your indecision.

The problem here is you can't answer. If you admit that "works to reliably produce useful knowledge" is a good test, then you'd be stuck having to show that intuition does. But if you reject that idea, you have to admit that the question you call begging is actually a legitimate one based on your claims. So which to choose?

So if "works reliably to produce useful knowledge" is your position, then why on earth would I say it's a "good test"? I'm lost on what you're saying here.

Oh, and we all know that this is because I have no way of answering because my argument is invalid. (Go ahead, I'm awaiting your response. That's right.)

If you don't know why you would or wouldn't say something, it's not my place to get involved. Think it through and come back when you've figured out what you think you would say.
