The Lyrics:

Sitting in my high-tower of my making, Came a figure from long ago
He asked me if I was happy, Said sure I am, but who are you?
He said I am Ecclesiastes, Said I, you mean the one with the seasons?
Said he ‘That’s right, and don’t bother with finding reasons.’

Said I, ‘You remind me of an angel named Clarence.’
Said he, ‘Figures ‘cause many live in a world not to their liking.’
Said I, ‘Why you here?’ Said he, ‘To lift your spirits this yuletide.’
Said I, ‘I thought you were the prophet of resignation, in a seasonal whirl’

Said he, ‘You didn’t read my whole book, it’s there.’
‘Eat, drink and be merry, for God approves.’ ‘Fear God in everything you do.
‘Your paths will be straight, will lead you to Heaven’s Gate,
‘And remember nothing just comes, out of the blue.’

Heard the telephone ring, realized I woke up from a dream
Was someone I grew up with, whom I thought was rich,
Asking me for money.
Told her to fear God and everything follows, just ask our dad
And maybe he won’t think it a bit too funny.

Sitting in my high-tower I saw a parade, of souls that never had it made.
Like me they look around, are not sure what they found,
They just took in, less than they gave.
