Would you all be cross if I tagged along?

I avoid most of it ... in fact I created an account just for Orthodoxy. I do nothing there but get really great stuff posted by really great people.I'm afraid I avoid FB like the plague. Sorry.
Of course you would be welcome.Would you all be cross if I tagged along?

I agree. I joined in 2010 as I had teenagers and I needed to keep an eye on them. now they're in their 20's and they don't post much on there(boys) I reconnected with some long lost relatives and I keep up with church happenings on there but honestly, I wish FB would disappear.I hear ya. The irony is that I deactivated my FB account because I was completely burned-out from seeing the drama, the politics, and disappointed in people. It distracted me on many levels.
FB is like a constant feed of angst. If you're really concerned about the 2nd Amendment, you'll get a news story every 3 seconds about how the Democratic socialist machine is coming for your guns and using some recent gun violence as their "don't let a good crisis go to waste" (Saul Alinsky style) approach. If you're liberal and hate Trump, they'll send a story every 2 seconds about how he is destroying the fabric of democracy like Emperor Palpatine. If you're a Marvel or DC fan, every half hour there is a feed about the Thor or Ant Man movie coming out 9 years from now.
And then there are the loons who have to post EVERY nauseating detail of their day. "Here's me with a steak sandwich downtown!" or "hey guys, today my son is going to the arcade and I get some alone time" or "here we are at the beach" or "making baked potatoes tonight." All fall into "who cares?" material for me!
Then there are the inane "Happy Valentine's Day to the love of my life, Janie. Love you, baby!" REQUIRED Valentine's Day platitudes that men are obliged to do since they value not being miserable! LOL
Then there are the corny Father's Day things where people stick pictures of their pops on there.
We also have to put French flags on our profiles if there is a massacre there or rainbows if some gay bar got sniped or Harvey Milk if it's LGBT Pride week or heaven knows what other social requirement there is at the time.
Then there are anniversary pictures people put up there.
It's one endless requirement and social platitude. Drives me nuts. Then we mustn't forget that your employer, the state, the feds, and every other set of eyes is looking into your life and seeing every detail. It's like having CCTV in your home.
Then there are Orthodox who put up stuff like, "fasting starts today..." which defeats the purpose of this private act of humility. Other Orthodox put up things like, "I'll be leaving FB until after Great Lent" with almost undertones of braggery.
It's pretty weird overall. People say, "where were you on Facebook!? We tried to include you in x, y, or z!? You aren't on there anymore!?" as if I left the Faith or am somehow committing adultery. I find it fascinating how a social networking becomes like some kind of social requirement with it being almost taboo to leave FB!? It's like the quote from a James Bond film----"no one leaves the KGB!!!"
You maybe will not be asked .I'm down for it. But, really, the rules here aren't oppressive, they just enforce basic Christian behavior.

Perhaps we should make our behavior better.Well, Facebook hasn't canned any of the other Orthodox groups yet, and what I'm envisioning is a closed group that can only be joined by invitation of another group member - people couldn't even apply to join the group like they can with Orthodox Hipsters. So, if a troll got in and reported us it would be our own fault for inviting the troll in.
And I'm not advocating flouncing off this site. This is where we meet new people and answer questions about our faith. But, we've also had an awful lot of threads get shut down, and I'd say about 50% of the time it was because of a non-Orthodox person coming in and causing trouble. The other 50% of the time it's our own bad behavior.
