If implemented in a way that would pass Constitutional muster, those all seem like great ideas to me.

No worries, it won't. Of course there are ways around the Constitution, as we have seen.

If the psychologists administering the test don't come up with the 'right' conclusions they may find themselves 'cancelled'.

I'm guessing that anyone who voted for Trump would be denied firearms.

Spins a school shooting as an (implied) hate crime to "justify" arbitrary licensing requirements, exorbitant fees, dangerous privacy violations (public registry plausibly setting up doxxing and home invasions when away from one's house), and draconian penalties. Law is inherently inciteful, inflammatory, defamatory & divisive many times & ways over

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee Wants A Gun Control Bill With National Firearm Registry, Requiring Licensing (charliekirk.com)

Even if this sort of thing were to pass, I see mass noncompliance for anybody that has previously purchased firearms legally. People will turn a blind eye, "forget" that is was passed, or say "they lost" such and such a gun (while keeping secretly hidden somewhere in case of an emergency). And meanwhile, would expect it to be challenged by the Supreme court eventually unless this country has completely fallen over to the Left side of politics.

I wonder what part of Texas she lives in. Even some folks in Austen might not go for this, let alone the more red parts of the state. She might have a tough reelection next time around.

Yeah the usual joke of such things is saying you "lost them in a boating accident".

The other silver lining is law enforcement. Most law enforcement is fairly pro second amendment. If they think a law or executive order is unfair they will be reluctant to enforce it, and depending on their confidence etc. may even openly refuse to do so.

If an equivalent bill were introduced in the UK I suspect there would be major public unrest at the dangerous, misguided, liberality of the measures. But as we are just a bunch of socialists over here you can safely ignore that viewpoint.

I hope the military remembers their Constitutional oath as well.

The national divide seems all-encompassing. So, seems some will & some won't. Politicians, Military, Police, etc., etc., etc., = people very divided in ideologies now.

...If the psychologists administering the test don't come up with the 'right' conclusions they may find themselves 'cancelled'...

If something like this bill was ever enacted, a shield law for psychologists would be necessary to prevent them being held liable for their judgment. Predicting future human behavior is an imprecise science.

I once had a client who had guns confiscated as he was taken into custody after a public mental health episode involving guns. He was soon released without charges and allowed to have his guns back if only if I, as his therapist, would send a letter to the court approving same.

Although he had diagnosed mental disorder mostly I thought he was harmless. Mostly. But what if he wasn't? It was my professional liability on the line and likely my future to ever practice again if I supported him getting his guns back, and he then used them to harm someone. If the lawsuit or resulting soaring malpractice insurance rates didn't put me out of business, the bad publicity for my decision would. If I didn't sign-off, one client fires me and my practice goes on. Hanging it all on the opinion of a mental health practitioner is a poor idea without a shield law.

Since that time, I've had other inquiry to do such evaluations. Uh, yeah thank you for asking but I don't do that.

So...what's unusual about that (for her)?

In my state we already have federal licensing both to carry the guns and to register the gun/guns. This includes concealed carry. It took 4 months for my renewal to come back ! Never mind for new licensing. But 70 and older is free, $100 otherwise. So while you wait for the renewed LTC to return to you you can buy ammo off the paper they give you but not any guns. I was interested in a home defense .410 or 20ga pump back last summer with short barrel. No go, not even used. But I could get ammo for my 12 ga hunting shotgun and 9mm hand guns. Understand I already had the old LTC which of course expired lol. You can't make up these stories from the wonders of sloppy government.

Well anyway it's what we already do here in this state.

Gun owners are not the bogeymen of the US. The NRA is not the source of crime in America. Scapegoating millions of law-abiding citizens who have never had any connection to any school shooting is not good police-work and law-enforcement. Carrying guns & pipe-bombs to school is already illegal, already a crime, already punishable right there & then.
  • Do the crime, do the time.
  • Don't do the crime, don't do the time.
No NRA American has ever charged into a high-school, guns blazing & pipe-bombs exploding.

No Americans' children will ever be made safer by scapegoating law-abiding citizens who never had any connection to any crime scene.

The NRA is not behind the Santa Fe school shooting, or any other school shooting. No American parent can seriously think otherwise.

Where is the Congresswoman's interest in:
  • school bullying
  • school counseling
  • school security
  • project "ChildSafe" ?
?

Blindly blaming lawful gunowners for "everything everywhere" is no different from blindly blaming immigrants for "everything everywhere". Knee-jerk scapegoating is knee-jerk scapegoating.

If any parents want the facts:

As far as I know the Newtown mom paid no penalty for allowing her son access to her firearm, if indeed it is true did that crime.
Not aware of any state with the restrictions in post #15

The anti christ needs Americans and others disarmed before he can come to steal, kill and destroy, the U.S. Constitution and Americans are in the way with the second amendment.
