  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Do you always take the "in your face" approach? If you were always "blunt" with your mother of father, or even your best friend, are they likely to listen to you?

Might I also ask, how much do you really know about the gay lifestyle and the people involved in it?

I'm not trying to blast you, I am trying to give you some things to think about. If you really want to convince someone of your argument, I'll give you a few pointers.

1. Avoid insulting the people you are directing your comments to; i.e. "it's disgusting". You have to understand that they don't see it as disgusting, so telling them you feel it is disgusting doesn't draw them into listening to your side of the debate, it pushes them away.

2. Getting "in your face" or "just being blunt" is the kind of communication reserved mostly for people who know each other very well. Opening a post with a "just being blunt" comment directed at a group of people is most likely only going to - again - turn them against you instead of listening to you.

3. Know your facts and be prepared to back up your statements. If you claim that gay people can "go straight", you better be prepared to back that statement up with some hard evidence to the fact, and not some rhetoric you heard about on the radio or in church. If you truly believe the Bible says so and that's your hard evidence, then you better know where and how the Bible says so, and be prepared for the fact that most people won't accept that answer. When they don't accept that answer, you better be prepared to love them anyway, before and after they don't accept your answer...

Just bein blunt about it thats all... just in case anyone isnt sure if it's possible to turn straight... and to tell people who are considering going gay not to...

Sexual orientation is an inborn and immutable trait. People do not choose their sexual orientation any more than they choose their IQ or the color of their eyes.

actually thats not true... God would not instill within anybody's mind to be gay - instead it might be habits or things they do when they are young that begin to develop this character. My friend took choir and drama - a mama's boy cuz his parents were divorced. Kids called him gay and made fun of him... in a serious way. Not long after he began to question if perhaps what these kids were saying might be true... thus began the exploration

OK. Look, I know you're young. I don't hold that against you. Use this post as a learning experience. Don't use it as an excuse to not stand up for what you believe in. On the contrary, use it as a reason to get to know what you truly believe, and why. If you walk around aimlessly repeating something you've heard, you're likely to do more harm than good. You can do better than that.

How do you know that? Many people are born with things that some people don't consider normal. Did you know that some people are born with both sets of genitals, or are born with the face or likeness of one sex, and the genitals of the other?

Who knows why these things happen, but they do.

Again, see rule number three above...

Now, I may offend some people by saying this, but I hope you understand my point and take it for the point I am trying to make, and not that I am condemning homosexuals.

The Bible condemns gluttony, yet there are people who are medically predisposed to overeat.

The Bible condemns lust, yet men are naturally prone to lust. Anyone who denies this is lying to you.

I could draw more parallels, but I'll leave it at that.

Somehow Christians like to single out the homosexual and forget about all the other obvious things that could Scripturally be used to condemn just about everyone who walks the earth [including themselves]...

Actually it is true.

For decades scientist have been searching for some common character or history among gays and lesbians. They only thing they have found is that if you are homosexual you are likely to have maternal aunts and uncles who are also homosexual. (Dean Hamer et al, "A Linkage Between DNA Markers on the X Chromosome and Male Sexual Orientation" Science 261 (1993-JUL-16): pp 321-27.) This was one of the first pieces of evidence linking genetics to sexual orientation. Since then dozens of other studies have found that homosexuality is an inborn and immutable trait. What the studies (any study) have not found is any evidence that gays and lesbians are the way we are because of how we were raised, our relationship with either parent, that we are mentally ill, that we were sexually molested at a young age, that we did not choose to be homosexual. There is also no evidence that homosexuals are somehow more interested in the arts as you are suggesting.

Ok, as soon as you can stop being straight, gay people will stop being gay. Deal?

As far as turning straight, I find it interesting that many groups that claim to turn gay people straight have a <1% success rate.
The success the ‘success’ rate for groups claiming to be able to alter sexual orientation is about 0.04%

When I was about 10 years old, there was a homosexual kid who lived about a block away. His initials were DB. DB was about 16 at the time. When he walked down the street, people stoned him. They spat on him. They had cursed him. About a year later they found that he had hung himself. One of my neigbors, upon hearing of his suicide, had said, "Well, it's about time."

But yet he does make them that way. Perhaps it's your Bible that is wrong, not homosexuality.

I can show using objective evidence that there is a high probability of homosexuality having a bilogical basis. You can not show using objective evidence that the Bible is true,

Which of us has the better chance of being right?
