Covid 19 coronavirus: Donald Trump on New Zealand's new outbreak

"You see what's going on in New Zealand?" Trump said.

"They beat it they beat, it was like front page [news] they beat it because they wanted to show me something."

"The problem is [there is a] big surge in New Zealand, you know it's terrible - we don't want that.

I think Trump makes a fool of himself when he says stuff like this. He has no awareness of things that go on and tries to misconstrue everything to deceive his base.

NZ went over 100 days without any community transmission.
We have recently found a small cluster and are acting quickly to contain it. Only time will tell if we are able to beat it again, but so far it doesn't appear to be growing exponentially.
We have 58 cases of confirmed community transmission all linked to each other.

58 cases, is that terrible from the USA perspective and something that you don't want??

Funny how Trump thinks a front page article about us getting rid of community transmission is all about him. As if we put it on the Front page to taunt him. Just bizzare.

Bizarre indeed.
Sometimes its feels like I'm reading a comedy sketch, which would be funny BUT its real and very dangerous, costing numerous lives.

He's out of touch and it just makes him look more foolish.

Every country is having problems with COVID-19. The difference is that those other countries leaders are actually taking significant science-based measures to minimize deaths. Trump is not.

His delusions of grandeur are getting steadily worse, it's very concerning to many people here.

It's hard to figure who's more shockingly ignorant in this whole exchange - Trump or his applauding audience. Relative to the size of their populations, New Zealand's outbreak of 69 cases is 1/9 the size of the number of cases the US recorded yesterday - and yesterday was a slow day.

NZ: 69 cases / 4.9 million people = 1 case per 71,014 people
US: 40,000 cases / 328 million people = 1 case per 8,200 people

New Zealand is about the same size (in terms of population) as Alabama and South Carolina. Alabama had 571 cases yesterday and SC had 456.

But the growth rate from 0 to 58 is much biglier than our growth rate.

Using my Trumper think... 71k is a bigger number than 8200, therefore it's worse. Checkmate NZ!

Even when he's forced to take steps he doesn't want to he immediately attacks those steps, such as wearing masks.

If you want to compare apples with apples. Bear in mind our recent outbreak didn't start yesterday, so we didn't jump from zero to our current total. We had 13 new cases yesterday.

Sure. My numbers here skew the interpretation of things in favor of the US - and we still come out 9x worse.

There’s something vaguely impressive about such monumental stupidity. I mean to get that dumb you really have to work at it, I don’t think it just happens.

It never fails to amaze me that Trump and his supporters continue pushing the narrative that Biden is not mentally competent to be President - given "The Donald's" numerous "faux pas," questioning another candidate's cognitive abilities is the last thing that this self-proclaimed "stable genius" in the White House should be emphasizing!
