Does it matter that journalists have quit asking about the missing McCarrick report?

    It’s July of 2020.

Do you know where the McCarrick report is?

There are people who still care about the who, what, when, where, why and how of the scandal that brought down former cardinal Theodore McCarrick, at one time the most press-friendly and influential cardinal in the United States of America.

In a way, it’s even more important to know more about the rise of McCarrick in church circles in and around New York City and then learn the details of his networking years in Washington, D.C. Who were McCarrick’s disciples and to what degree did they protect him, during the years when rumors were thick on the ground about — to be specific — his unique personal style when dealing with seminarians.

It’s totally understandable that the McCarrick investigation has faded from view. The year 2020 has, after all, served up challenge after challenge for journalists and church leaders, alike. McCarrick was shipped off to western Kansas and, now, it appears that he has moved to a safe house of his own choosing.

The former cardinal is now an afterthought.

But not for everyone. The other day, J.D. Flynn of the Catholic News Agency produced a thoughtful essay on what this silence means and the long term effects it could have on Catholic laypeople and their trust of the church hierarchy. It’s worth reading — even as the year 2020 rages around us. Here is the overture:

The medias "eyeballs" are focused on political matters .... they have an agenda one way or the other .... right now nothing else much matters to them.

They need to release a comprehensive report, not a whitewash. And every week it is delayed makes things look worse. I can't imagine at this point that pope Francis can come out clean. Nor a chunk of the curia. Nor a chunk of the American hierarchy.

It matters because there is a tie-in to the new American Democratic Catholic vote, which looks a lot different than the solid Catholic vote that elected JFK.

The Party has changed, and the Church has also changed at the same time.
It is the Remnant Catholic vote that will elect Trump, but that vote is soft support at best.

So for the report on McCarrick to come out now, could split the
American Catholic vote right down the middle, and do no good for either political party in this election year.

Please say it isn't all reduced to politics and getting Biden elected. There is a lot about the McCarrick affair that makes me want to vomit. If what you say is true I will be nauseous for the rest of my life, or at least until the election is over.

I've felt for a long time that Pope Francis and the USCCB mean to bury that report and simply let uncle Ted fade into obscurity.

I am going to agree with that statement 100%.

The only logical conclusion is all of those men appear to be not born again, not saved - those words can be used by a Catholic, and they don't apply to people that behave this way. Nobody that knows and loves Jesus could behave that way.
