How do you view avoiding having relations with a particular ethnic group based on cultural and behavior practices that are unacceptable to you?

It sounds like you're making excuses.

Culture isn't ethnicity or race. They are simply different things. You are conflating the two.

I understand that they get mixed up but it is best to think about the different ideas separately.

Everyone is going to do things that you don't agree with. I don't condone treating people like faceless groups and simply "avoiding" them as if they aren't individuals.

If we're talking about say avoiding groups because they are all about everything I am not about, then it's just avoiding negativity in general. Which seems fine.

But racists will counter that some races are more evolved than others. Various ethnicities have been portrayed as half-apes in cartoons by such people. Blacks, Asians, Irish . . .

Yes they will...but all they do is to display their ignorance about the history of human evolution...

I actually do that in my business, and am called a racist for it.

People who actually study biology will disagree because it's not what the facts say. So, unless some half informed racist is going to argue evolutionary biology with real biologists...

I mean that happens all the time but it doesn't say anything about the theory of evolution.

Well when I typed that I was thinking about how I purposefully don't hang out with members of the KKK for instance.

So, I mean groups of people tied together by ideology.

Is preferring to hang with people that look like yourself ok?

Why would you mention black people?

It's an example where you would actually be pretty racist.

If we're talking about "avoiding groups because they are all about everything I am not about", then putting any broad ethnicity or race into that category would make one a racist.

Sorry, it's an example, I am not accusing you of anything.

Preferring?

That would be a natural instinct that you shouldn't let box you out of exploring groups of people who don't look like you.

Can't be all bad if it's natural.

Can't be all bad if it's natural.

Natural isn't actually synonymous with good, no.

A preference for people that look like us is a natural byproduct of how humanity would have lived for eons in small communities of similar looking people.

So the feeling can be doing you a disservice in the modern world that is less like that.

If you can't just say what you mean then it is probably not that great.

Avoiding social shame is another one of those natural mechanisms that tells us how to moderate our actions. This one is usually workable in the modern world though.

I suppose that's up to the individual's situation.

I have pretty much solved that problem for myself.

Avoiding social shame is another one of those natural mechanisms that tells us how to moderate our actions. This one is usually workable in the modern world though.

That's an inviting topic for conversation.
