It seems a little "New Age" to me...
*Yoda Voice* - The force...is all around you...in the rocks...in the trees...it is everywhere.

I used to be a fan...I'm not too wild about it anymore.

The Star Wars "Force" philosophy as exposed by Yoda in "Empire Strikes Back" (not the bacteria theory as in Phantom Menace) is largely derived from the world view of Zen Buddhist "naturalist" philosophy which in itself is a pale reflection of Christian philosophy.

Everything comes from God and the spirit of God dwells in everything in this world - even the vilest, most evil person was made in the image of God; but Lucifier, the evil one, has corrupted and perverted the good twisting it to his own dark schemes.

And for this reason, Jesus has died that we may stop sinning and be transformed into his likeness.

"We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time."
    Romans 8:22

    Hi, Everyone....
This topic sure brings back memories....
    Long story, short version:
I was in the midst of my most zealous, "Bible-thumping," tongue-talking, lay-preaching, theologically-evolving, charismatic days when "Star Wars" came out. (By the way--how do I make words come out italicized?). So there I was, speaking out against the movie (along with a whole bunch of folks back then), even though I never took the time to see it. (To give you an idea of how "zealous" I was, I do not remember "Roe v Wade" becoming law!)

Fast forward to early 80s. My wife (2nd marriage) and I are watching TV and I kept seeing that Coke commerical with those space creatures in that bar/cantina. She finally explained to me that it was a take-off of a scene in "Star Wars." Not long after that I saw the movie on HBO.

I've been a huge, huge fan ever since. In retrospect, I have no earthly idea what all the fuss was about. The religion of the "force," as one person here so rightly observed, really was pure Zen. And that, based upon my life's experiences, understanding, and too many years of Martial Art training, is also not a bad thing.

"Void of redemption, ummm, yes, Zen is, but excellent for daily living. Unconcerned with God it is."

Or, in the immortal words of Obi Won Kenobe: "Everything is true...from a certain point of view."

And, in the final analysis, it is/was "just" a movie. Those Hollywood folks seem to take themselves too seriously most of the time. They don't need any help from me, that's for sure.

The first Star Wars movies was OK... All downhill from there.

The Lord of the Rings movies can't do justice to the books.

I enjoy the Trilogy.  I find nothing wrong with its context and possible religious analogies.  The battle between good and evil is as univeral as Cool Whip on pumkin pie.

My older ones are star wars fans. They quote the movies line for line.
That's all you ever hear. It could be worse they could be into something
a lot worse. Hoping they grow out of it till then I will continue to pray that
their focus will be fully on Jesus.

Fan = fanatic... no I am not a fan. But I do enjoy the series very much. The special effects, the story, watching it all twist together and unfold again. It is a sensational delight. It was enjoyable as a child... it is enjoyable now. I especially like the Purple Light Sabre.

I'm waiting for Episode III to be released on DVD (yes, I know the film isn't out yet) because then I will watch all six episodes in sequence.

When SW came out originally I thought it was absolutely fantastic.... I couldn't believe the special effects. The feeling I had then was greater then the feeling I get now watching LOTR even though the special effects in LOTR are incredible. As time has moved on, the effects seem to be nothing special in today's film world, but I still think it has one of the best films to be released.

I think George Lucas has made a rod for his own back starting with episode 4. He was bound to get calls for episodes 1-3, which he has, and I don't think they are anywhere as good as episodes 1-3 (even though Liam Neeson is my favourite actor). The bubble has burst with SW now. The merchandiseing was bigger than for episodes 4-6 and they ended up throwing most of it away as it didn't sell.

LOL!!! You sound just like me when the Harry Potter Movie first came out and the Lord of the Rings, but now I do like both of them. :) You just can't take that stuff too seriously, it's no worse than the constant sex, and other unchristian behaviour that most of TV and movies contain so.... LOL! I mean which is worse, sex scenes, violence, drug scenes etc or kids doing magic tricks? It's all bad but we still watch those other movies right?;) LOL!

I remember back when I was a kid that my mom wouldn't watch any movies or TV shows that had cursing in it, and a movie used to be deemed unappropriate for us by her if it did have cursing, cussing in it. If we did that today, we wouldn't watch TV at all! LOL!
