Ok, then let's look at Canada. Their health care system is often pointed to as to why we should have a socialist-style health cares system. However, the reality is that it should be pointed to as an example of why NOT to go that direction, whether it be a socialist style health care system, education, housing, etc.
Why Canada’s ‘best’ health-care system just got ranked last — again
Written by William Watson, a Canadian conservative who spends a few articles complaining about liberals. Sounds like someone without an agenda.
About the Author
Kelly Meloche, President of International HealthCare Providers Inc., an Ontario-based company that connects Canadians to private medical care solutions. www.ihcproviders.com
(Nope, no agenda there...)
First he wrote a book with a very laughable title:
Gratzer's most recent book, with Foreword by Milton Friedman, is The Cure: How Capitalism Can Save American Health Care (Encounter Books, October 2006).
Second, the majority of his other articles are rants against Obama and Obamacare. This guy certainly doesn't have an agenda...bet he could make lots more money than he's making now if Canada's healthcare system was for-profit like ours is though.
Rich Canadians do have the option to pay more for their own health care, just like in the U.S., in fact, they can even go to the U.S. for it if they wish, so not sure what this guy is ranting about other than that he doesn't want to pay taxes.
Even bigger and better than all the opinion articles to be found, however, is the fact that there are very few, if any, Canadians who seem eager to give up their healthcare system for ours. In fact, the majority seem very grateful and consider it a blessing compared to our capitalistic for-profit model.
That's not to say that Canada's system is perfect or that it couldn't be improved, but at least all of their citizens have basic health care regardless of life circumstances. We don't in the U.S.
