We hope to see you as a part of our community soon and God Bless!

  2. The forums in the Christian Congregations category are now open only to Christian members. Please review our current Faith Groups list for information on which faith groups are considered to be Christian faiths. Christian members please remember to read the Statement of Purpose threads for each forum within Christian Congregations before posting in the forum.
  3. Please note there is a new rule regarding the posting of videos. It reads, "Post a summary of the videos you post . An exception can be made for music videos.". Unless you are simply sharing music, please post a summary, or the gist, of the video you wish to share.
  4. There have been some changes in the Life Stages section involving the following forums: Roaring 20s, Terrific Thirties, Fabulous Forties, and Golden Eagles. They are changed to Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X, and Golden Eagles will have a slight change.
  5. CF Staff, Angels and Ambassadors; ask that you join us in praying for the world in this difficult time, asking our Holy Father to stop the spread of the virus, and for healing of all affected.
  6. We are no longer allowing posts or threads that deny the existence of Covid-19. Members have lost loved ones to this virus and are grieving. As a Christian site, we do not need to add to the pain of the loss by allowing posts that deny the existence of the virus that killed their loved one. Future post denying the Covid-19 existence, calling it a hoax, will be addressed via the warning system.

Do you practice supernatural manifestations of the holy spirit?

It seems to act upon our innate ability to know right from wrong. I do not know if the bible uses the word conscience but I sure do not care to argue over meanings of words. It is a fruitless debate.

Conscience-consciousness of the moral right and wrong of one's own acts and motives.

I do not think conscience has it's root in flesh. It is distinct from flesh. (I am acting upon discernment the ability to distinguish between obscure things) If it is not material or flesh, it must be rooted in mind or spirit, and causes a feeling in the flesh. At that point we can deny the flesh if we choose what is right over what is wrong. This would involve humbling ourselves.

    Does this help at all?

Apparently I am preaching to myself. It seems to help me.

With scripture that has The Holy Spirit communing with our spirit, then a notion that our conscience would be involved in that somehow would be wrong.

If anything, that part of our being would be involved with the soul-life in our blood,...

There is a different Hebrew word for spirit, and certainly different attributes associated with it.

Our blood brings us what we need to live. Oxygen and nutrients. Jesus blood brings us true life. His word is spirit and truth. It is the breath of life and the bread of life.

    Genesis 20:6
Then God said to him in the dream, "Yes, I know you did this with a clear conscience, and so I have kept you from sinning against me. That is why I did not let you touch her.

    1 Samuel 24:5
Afterward, David was conscience-stricken for having cut off a corner of his robe.

    2 Samuel 24:10
David was conscience-stricken after he had counted the fighting men, and he said to the LORD, "I have sinned greatly in what I have done. Now, O LORD, I beg you, take away the guilt of your servant. I have done a very foolish thing."

    Job 27:6
I will maintain my righteousness and never let go of it; my conscience will not reproach me as long as I live.

    Acts 24:16
So I strive always to keep my conscience clear before God and man.

    Romans 2:15
since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them.)

    Romans 9:1
[ God's Sovereign Choice ] I speak the truth in Christ—I am not lying, my conscience confirms it in the Holy Spirit—

    Romans 13:5
Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience.

    1 Corinthians 4:4
My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me.

    1 Corinthians 8:7
But not everyone knows this. Some people are still so accustomed to idols that when they eat such food they think of it as having been sacrificed to an idol, and since their conscience is weak, it is defiled.

    1 Corinthians 8:12
When you sin against your brothers in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.

    1 Corinthians 10:29
the other man's conscience, I mean, not yours. For why should my freedom be judged by another's conscience?

    2 Corinthians 1:12
[ Paul's Change of Plans ] Now this is our boast: Our conscience testifies that we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially in our relations with you, in the holiness and sincerity that are from God. We have done so not according to worldly wisdom but according to God's grace.

    2 Corinthians 4:2
Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.

    2 Corinthians 5:11
[ The Ministry of Reconciliation ] Since, then, we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade men. What we are is plain to God, and I hope it is also plain to your conscience.

    1 Timothy 1:5
The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.

    1 Timothy 4:2
Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.

    Titus 1:15
To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted.

    Hebrews 9:9
This is an illustration for the present time, indicating that the gifts and sacrifices being offered were not able to clear the conscience of the worshiper.

    Hebrews 9:14
How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!

    Hebrews 10:22
let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.

From what I can tell, scripture is clear that God uses our conscience but that our conscience is not the voice of God....Exodus 15:26
He said, "If you listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who heals you."

    Numbers 7:89
When Moses entered the Tent of Meeting to speak with the LORD, he heard the voice speaking to him from between the two cherubim above the atonement cover on the ark of the Testimony. And he spoke with him.

    Deuteronomy 4:33
Has any other people heard the voice of God speaking out of fire, as you have, and lived?

    Deuteronomy 4:36
From heaven he made you hear his voice to discipline you. On earth he showed you his great fire, and you heard his words from out of the fire.

    Deuteronomy 5:22
These are the commandments the LORD proclaimed in a loud voice to your whole assembly there on the mountain from out of the fire, the cloud and the deep darkness; and he added nothing more. Then he wrote them on two stone tablets and gave them to me.

    Deuteronomy 5:25
But now, why should we die? This great fire will consume us, and we will die if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any longer.

    1 Samuel 15:22
But Samuel replied: "Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the LORD ? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.

    Mark 1:11
And a voice came from heaven: "You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased."

    Mark 9:7
Then a cloud appeared and enveloped them, and a voice came from the cloud: "This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!"

    Luke 3:22
and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: "You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased."

    John 5:25
I tell you the truth, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live.

Okay, I have to go for now, there are tons more passages about the voice of God, none say that the voice of God is our conscience...we do have passages however that tell us that God uses our conscience

My statement is that GOD speaks to our spirit, not our conscience. If you have something that identifies The Holy Spirit in communion with our conscience instead of our spirit, present it.

I think that the operative word is "prompting" . . . I agree . . . that makes God the impetus . . . and if it is prophetic message to the congregation, then yes it is God, but not in prayer . . . prayer would be the expression of our spirit to God.

So, it would be US praying, by the impetus of the Spirit, NOT the SPIRIT praying through us . . . for the only warrant I see of God speaking through the tongue is in addressing the congregation. All other uses Paul speaks of the practitioner being the one speaking . . . tho, albeit, by the impetus of the Spirit.

Another good word for impetus would be unction. It is a smooth oily flow. Prophesy is defined as bubbling up.

I am not sure if you are getting the dichotomy that I am placing upon it.

The Spirit awakens the ability to commune with God on this level, but it is the PERSON who speaks, awakened by the Spirit of God, so it is INDEED the Spirit who GIVES but it is the person who SPEAKS.

It is YOU speaking to God, 1 cor 14 alludes to the PERSON being the speaker praising God, blessing God, praying to God . . . the person can control if the speech comes forth.

The only time in which it is depicted AS THE SPIRIT doing the speaking (different than merely "giving" the utterance as this is the dichotomy that Luke shows us) is if God addresses the CONGREGATION . . . but this is not the same function as when one speaks alone, or in prayer.

Blessing to you as well! :)

I agree that most Christians do operate the inspiration gifts on their own outside of corporate settings, but not everyone is able to step out in their own faith to do that 100% of the time. There are ones you normally see only speaking in tongues during prayer when they are somewhat overcome slightly with The Holy Spirit and respond to His "promptings" inside, and sort of blurt out the gift.

I agree with that word choice, promptings.

But not to split hairs here with you, "praying in The Holy Spirit" within the Greek uses that word which is easily translated to "by" The Holy Spirit, and any of the gifts can be operated by The Holy Spirit for The Father's benefit, along with ours in the process.

As I matured, it became of more importance to me to respond to The Holy Spirits promptings to pray instead of me just launching out whenever on my own.

No that is fine, it's not like I can't still just launch out into it whenever. I think there was a learning aspect with The Holy Spirit as He sort of molded me towards more discipline in following His leading.

    Agreed

    Re: in/with/ by (Greek en)

Yes I kno the words. I think tho that my concern is this:
There is a plethora of ignorant Pentecostals/Charismatics who believe and teach that tongues is the SPirit praying through you to God . . . and they errantly use Roman 8:26 (Spirit interceding for us) as referring particularly to tongues.

It is a theology that is contrary to Paul's statement of the spirit of the prophet being subject to the prophet and antithetical to all of 1 Cor 12-14 where tongues is pictured as Paul praying in HIS spirit (when I speak in a tongue MY spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful) and that it is a wonderful intimate thing that communes the deepest part of us to God and is not some mystical possession of our bodies by the Holy Spirit who then puppets our words . . . that is HUGELY what was happening when demons took over the mantenoi and the Delphic and Pythian oracles . . . it was this "possession" of sorts that was found in the pagan practices that was DIFFERENT then what happened in the church that was able to be controlled for the sake of honor and order.

So, here is where I land:
Most of the time, tongues is initiated BY ME . . . but its FIRST manifestation in my life was awakened by the Spirit of God. SOMETIMES I get an impetus, unction as our brother put it, where it wells up from within as my spirit LURCHES outward in emotional display . .. and ONLY ONCE where it was God seeking to speak to the congregation through the tongue.

The ONLY time where I see tongues as the Spirit speaking through me, is when the PEOPLE are adressed . . . not when the tongue is to God, which is MOST of the time. But even the tongue TO God can be FOR the congregation . . . so that the public manifestation can be, either to God or FROM GOD . . . as they would both bless, but it is only the FROM God in which the Spirit is speaking . . . though BOTH are given by the impetus of the Spirit.

What I see in scripture is this . . . as once the statement is from God (I will speak to this people) and ALL THE REST are from the person TO GOD and it is the PERSON speaking per the Greek pronoun usage.

    My 2 pennies
