Isn't it part of the Apostles creed? I've heard it talked about a lot but I'm not 100% sure where it came from aside from the Apostles creed.

1 Peter 3 said that Jesus preached to the people living at the time of Noah. Some folks get that mixed up a bit and claim that Jesus went to hell at his death and preached to all the wicked who live in the OT and were dead

I see. Well that just kind of proves that Jesus descended into hell then because all of the people alive during noah's time were all in hades.

Well as it turns out "The Spirit of Christ" in 1 Peter 1 was interactive with those OT folks during their life time... not after they died. (unless of course they were sending Bible texts out from the grave)

1 Peter 1
10 As to this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that would come to you made careful searches and inquiries, 11 seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow.

Nothing here about talking to dead people.

So also in 1 Pet 3
18 For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit; 19 in which also He went and made proclamation to the spirits in prison, 20 who once were disobedient, when the patience of God kept waiting in the days of Noah, during the construction of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through the water.

The text is very specific - those alive during the days of Noah -- that is "when" the Spirit of Christ and the Patience of God were at work on them.

God is not converting the dead. "It is appointed unto man once to die and them comes judgment" Hebrews 9... not "and then comes a bunch more chances to accept the Gospel"

So then... no purgatory -- no accepting the Gospel after you die.

I agree. That's really interesting.
