I have a friend who recently had to put his black lab to sleep, and he was really torn up over it; she had been with him for about eleven years. I told him that he would see her again in heaven, and it made me wonder if that is really true. Is there any scripture in the bible that tells us our pets have souls too?

well, more than just our souls go to heavon.
we have a soul, a body and a spirit. and it all goes to heavon.
    though it is made perfect.

i myself, believe animals could very well be in heavon.
there are chariots drawn by spirit horses, as clearly stated in scripture. so, why not dogs for pets? if there are horses for pulling chariots?
the things that are seen, are modeled after the things that are not seen.
this earth, this life, this society, the creatures, it is all a model or picture of the spiritual realm, or heavon.
and one day, after heavon is on earth. life will go on as normal, as it does now, but jesus will reighn surpreme.

i believe animals could very well be in heavon. why not?
balams donkey was not some mindless thing with no purpose, the rocks can praise god! and the bible says the donkeys TONGUES WAS LOOSED, not that he was given a new brain or something. he just allowed the donkey to speak.
there are more to animals than we know.

the bible even says that god himself looked for adam a mate amoung the animals first! and found there was none fit.
but hey, god looked. there must be more to these animals than we know.

When my best friend cat of 17 years died in 2000 (I'm 22 now) I sought the answer on my own. What I found was quite interesting:

The soul of an animal returns to the ground from which it came. Animals do not have eternal spirits. But... and catch this: a few lucky ones have eternal masters. :) and that is the key.

And it's a good bet our pets won't be in heaven any more than we will be after Jesus returns, because the final destination of the Eternal Age is not heaven...but heaven ON earth. :) It will be just like the Garden of Eden all over again - heaven, God and man dwelling together on the created Earth. On this earth, where EVERYTHING is to be made new; there will be "no more crying, no more pain", and I believe that God will love us so much, that even if we have a heart to remember our pet in the Eternal Age (or maybe even ask to remember now), I can not imagine why God wouldn't mind recreating/resurrecting them to live forever with us or the other animals when death is finally swallowed up in victory!.."where the lamb will lay down with the lion, and children play in the viper snake's holes." :) Of course, I also believe we will be so in love with God that our attention will be hard pressed to think of anything else (the glory alone to behold ...wow!), ...but if for some reason we do think of our animals, the bible says God is more than happy to give us the desire of our hearts - and how much more so will He as to fulfill scripture that promises there will be "no pain or crying!"

I really look forward to the Eternal Age. I imagine my cat to eventually be resurrected and soon playing again with the children of God in our new heaven in our renewed Earth - the true place were "life" is blessed and lives forever, and ever. Forever, just as it was; in the Garden of Eden.

    God bless,
    <><

    >>The soul of an animal returns to the ground from which it came.

Souls do not come from the ground, the body comes from the ground. Souls come from God and return to God.

If a person has not being born again of the spirit, then at the proper time their soul returns to God for judgement.

We who are born again of the spirit, have a body, soul and spirit. The Spirit is made in the image of God. We have been made alive in Him, becasue He has given us His Holy Spirit.

Nope they don't. all creation is fallen so unless you can get your dog to repent hahaha...then nope..sorry to say. Animals will be in heaven because creation will be remade, but they will all be new ones..the ones that die are gone :)

you're right, i should have better said. "breath of God." Because it is God's "breath" and the body that makes flesh come alive. (Genesis creation of Adam).

Animal "souls" return to God, but their body to the earth.

I don't think the dog gets a choice here. You want him back,he's back ! I can't imagine Jesus sayin' no ,and if you've seen Jesus you've seen the Father.Anything that does not go against the attributes of the Spirit of God will not be held from those he loves. In the new testiment the attributes of a Godly man are listed very clearly.these attributes are God. Thats where they come from.thats who he is.These attributes are called love.God is Love. And not some human kind of love that we sometimes label him with, but his discription of love also well described in the N.T.
I believe" ya kan hav ala' dogs ya wan , jus keepm' outa' myard"

I always believed that animals wouldn't be in heaven because they have no souls... but the Lord obviously loves animals - he so creatively created such a variety. And he made sure to save them two at a time... We know he even loves the little sparrow. So my guess, Solo, is he loves your dog, too! And I think if God enjoys animals so much here, we'll all probably enjoy them in heaven.

Who is to say they need a soul to be in Heaven. Maybe they will be there for the sole purpose of the Lord's enjoyment.

In a way I believe just that. Jesus did not come to restore JUST man. He came to restore ALL of creation.

    Mark 16:15
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Notice, Jesus did not say to preach to every man, women and child, He said to preach to ever creature, ever created thing.

Will our pets be in Heaven? Or more realisticly, when we rule and reign with Christ here on earth for 1000 years will our pets be here with us. It could be that we will be able to clone them. I really do not know about their actual "soul" if they even have one. It could be they just have a body, and the body is of the earth. But our body is of the earth, and it will be raised from the dead and glorified. Or for some of us, we will conquer death, that is we will never see death, our body will not see corruption, it will just be transformed. But for our body NOT to see corruption, then it will have to be without spot, blemish or wrinkle. We will have to be living free from all sin, in righteousness before God.

I hear they just cloned the first cat, and named him CC, which stands for CopyCat. I think that the reason that people like their pets so much is because the pets reflect them in some way. Thanks, JohnR7

wow, thanks for all of the insight, and scripture quotes; John, I will have to look that up (getting your pets to repent) Many people believe that their pets can understand them; do they? here is another question. Are there good and bad animals; just like there are bad genes in people, does this apply to animals, (sounds funny) but how could we get them to repent; an interesting topic.

CC actually stands for carbon copy.

And thanks to Day for posting that scripture from Ecclesiastes. There is your scriptural proof animal souls return to the ground, JohnR7. :)

The fact is though, what is to prevent God from resurrecting them at our request - or even HIS request? :)

I fully expect to see my pets in the New Earth frolicking with other creatures God has "made new."

LB, our focus may be on God...but it is determined that we will be doing things other than just glorifying God by staring at him. :) Ever thought that maybe playing with God's creation like Adam did with the animals before the Fall brings just as much pleasure to him?

    I have a question.

Suppose one has a pet dolphin. Does that pet enter into heaven? As I understand Scripture, there will be no more seas, so are they in a "holding tank"? <><
