In response to the op's scripture and title with the emphasis on meditating on these things: it points out that just following evil thoughts is wrong. I remember a preacher that would have us follow along with the worst of the worst just to get a good crowd at the altar but it didn't apply to the vast majority of his listeners. That I thought was another form of evil thought being followed after. Very subtle but it was imo.
