I've had this thing for about 4 weeks. I was looking into the internet about this thing and it says it takes 3-4 weeks and it also says it can take years to heal. Which is it?

It also says that these things just go away on their own or they just pop which is it. Do they heal by popping on their own or what?

I'm just getting a lot of conflicting info on it and not sure which one to believe.

Yes, no, maybe - I don't know and most of us here are going to have no idea. Stop trying to get medical advice from a bunch of random people on an Internet forum and go and see a doctor.

When you goto the doctor to take a look at a mucocele cyst will you cut it out as the first option?

I've gotten my first mucocele cyst on my lower lip. It's been there a month so far, and hasn't changed. Will doctor go straight for the surgery to get rid of it or will he go for the less extreme measures first since it's first time I've gotten on.

and yes, I'm gonna goto a doc for this.

Went to the doctor. She didn't really seem to know what she's doing. Which is pretty bad if even I can tell that's she's not knowing what she's doing about. Told her about the cyst, that I had it for 4 weeks. It's very movable and no pain. Appeared suddenly, probably from lip bitting which I never really knew I did till I got this. The fact the lip cyst was shrinking a bit.

Anyway she took a quick look at that, and lymph nodes in the area, checked my mouth for anything else. Told me to put a warm compress on it and if it doesn't go away goto a plastic surgeon to take a look at it

Sounds like she gave you sound advice. She checked to see if this was related to any potential oral infections (checked your lymph nodes). And as you read, it likely will go away on its own. And if it doesn't, she recommended you go to a specialist who would be able to remove it. What is your issue with this doctor's advice?

Honestly, I am a nurse and have never seen one of these and had to look it up. And if it is what you think it is, it appears to be harmless and since it is fluid filled, it would likely "pop" not need to be cut out. It could also be absorbed by your body which is likely what is happening if it is going away on its own. If it doesn't pop (let it do this on its own...there are a lot of bacteria in your mouth that could get in it if you popped it yourself) then maybe it isn't really what you think it is...which is why she would send you to a specialist and one who deals with delicate skin.

Honestly, I was just hoping that she'd just me that it's harmless and nothing to worry about.

Did you ask her that? She can't know for sure without running tests to prove that it isn't something else. She basically told you what you wanted to hear when she said that it should probably go away but covered her butt when she gave you instructions to follow up with a specialist if it didn't.

Okay, got it. The cyst seems to be shrinking even more, that is a good sign right? Though the cyst does seem to be hard which is kinda worrying .

Got it. It's gotten noticeably smaller but it's still and turn from a hard cyst to soft one. I'm watching it daily, is there any special I should watch out for?

It is hard because the fluid part has been reabsorbed. The hard part will likely take longer. Take a picture then ignore it for a month. If is larger in a month AND you havent aggrevated it, then you can make and appointment with a doc. If it is the same or smaller, check again in 2 or 3 months. If it is still there but doesnt bother you, leave it alone. It it does, do see the plastic surgeon you were recommended to see.

Thanks, though I did say it's become soft again. So yeah, still just take the wait a see approach? But yeah other then the fact that it's still there it doesn't bother me. It's mostly my anxiety that's bothering me.

I had a cyst on a different part of my body. It was there for about a year and just went away on its own.
