The DNC is 'dead broke' while the RNC has nearly $40M

As Democrats prepare to go to war over retaking Congress, it may be rather difficult, because the Democratic National Committee is nearly broke.

In FEC filings closing out 2017, the party appears to be starting the new year $6.1 million dollars in debt, with just $6.5 million in the bank. That leaves the DNC with just $400,000.
Meanwhile, the Republican National Committee has amassed quite a fortune. Their filings show zero debt with nearly $40 million in the bank.

Brazile says Obama left DNC in deep debt; Clinton camp controlled party finances before 2016 primary

Former Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Donna Brazile says President Obama decimated the party’s finances to win re-election in 2012 and that Hillary Clinton’s campaign took control of the DNC long before she defeated Sen. Bernard Sanders for the party’s presidential nomination last year.

Let's be thankful the people who financially ruined their own party coffers didn't win the Whitehouse! Imagine where our economy would be now.

Don't they have George Soros and/or his "Open Society" to finance them?

Probably. It's all likely under the table and laundered through various "charities".

It sounds feasible. He just gave 18 billion (which is most of his billions) to his "Open Society", a huge umbrella organization.

The DNC isn't really involved with campaigns. It is an administrative organization. There are separate committees — the DCCC (current cash on hand: $39 million to the NRCC's $43 million), the DSCC (current cash on hand: $19 million to the NRSC's $15 million), and a variety of state-level organizations — that provide direct funding to campaigns. On top of that, the vast majority of money spent by campaigns is raised directly by the campaigns, and does not come from a party committee.

In other words: the DNC's finances are immaterial to the ability of Democratic candidates to field campaigns.

It is pretty cool that a “broke” political party beat the one rolling in cash.

In a special election. What will happen in the general election? No one knows. But given those bigger paychecks and more jobs, the Dems shouldn't get too confident.

Virginia wasn't a special election, it was the regular election. Democrats swept all three statewide races with higher vote shares than in 2013, and picked up 15 seats in the House of Delegates, and came within 2 votes in one other district and 100 in another, which would have flipped the majority.

Still consulting the old democratic playbook, are we? Lol!

(snip)
The one that says "When the billionaire swamp is in charge of the House, the Senate and the Executive branch the Republican Party will always be flush with money."?

Why would anyone be much surprised that DNC is broke and RNC has surplus? The big donors contribute to who is going to make them richer. The lastest tax cuts proved beyond a doubt that this is Trump. Trump gave some of them millions USD in tax breaks, of course they love him and contribute to him.
