The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:Revelation 1:1 (KJV 1900)

And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel to shew unto his servants the things which must shortly be done.Revelation 22:6 (KJV 1900)

Why is it most still look for the visions of Revelation to be fulfilled in the distant future? When Jesus said they would soon come to pass - nearly 2000 years ago?

Could it be we are like a person who misses his turn and still looks for it 2000 miles down the road? Someone too stubborn to take another look at the map?

On an eternal clock, 2000 years is soon. Besides, if God's word is eternal, why does one manifestation of it render it moot?

God offered the Messiah to the Jews, they rejected Him, and had their tribulation for it in 70 AD. But that's only half the story. God then offered the Christ to the world. The world is rejecting him, and will suffer its tribulation for it in the near (not distant) future.

"shortly" = a billion years in the future, not anytime soon, you'll never live to see it, (The Now Version).

I vote for an "other" explanation in your earlier poll, MYL. Christ came in judgement and salvation - as He said He would - in that generation (that was A return - but He will still come again).

    Quoting from linked article:
Parousia / New Jerusalem Day will be celebrated for the first time on August 7, 2016 (the first Sunday in August). This is close to August 10th, the day when the Second Temple fell in Jerusalem in 70 AD. Jesus became the cornerstone of a new temple, God’s dwelling place made up of His people from all nations (Ephesians 2:19-22).”

“Parousia” (pronounced par-oo-see’-ah) means “presence” and marks the day of the fall of the natural temple/Jerusalem in AD 70 and Day that Jesus Christ taught that he was spiritually “coming”. This is NOT the celebration of the loss of life that day, but the honoring of the implications of this new kingdom era. In the same way we don’t celebrate the infanticide that happened at the hands of Herod in Bethlehem, yet we do celebrate the birth of Christ at the same time.

This is one of the most neglected, misunderstood truths of scripture, while also is one of the most important treasure-filled pieces in our relationship with God. - Adam Maarschalk

I believe you could have stopped right here. I completely agree with you.

One correction though - not ALL Jews rejected Him or we wouldn't have our faith. Our roots are in Ancient Judaism and began with the faithful Jews.

Why take one verse literally and other verses in the same chapter figuratively ?

Revelation 1:7 BEHOLD, HE IS COMING WITH THE CLOUDS, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the tribes of the earth will mourn over Him. So it is to be. Amen.

If Jesus came back in 70 AD , why didn’t anyone record this great event ?

Question for 70 AD folks ,

If the Parousia was exclusive to the Jew and Judea. Why were the Thessalonians so worry about it ?

    2ndThessalonians 2:1-2

1Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, 2that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come.

That's like stopping the story of Cinderella at the point where the carriage reverts back to a pumpkin. You're missing the entire ending

I believe we are in the last 1/2 of Revelation 20 with Satan loosed and Christ's return immanent.

Not much time right now. But my question was why take "shortly" literal and "every eye shall see him" figuratively ?

To me, this seems to be a concern about false teachings and imposter letters - not a "worry" about the Day of the Lord coming to them.

Jesus Christ of Nazareth was announcing prophetic warnings to Jerusalem in His generation. He detailed exactly what would happen and it did happen in 70 AD.

"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! See! Your house is left to you desolate; for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, 'Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!'" (Matt. 23:37-39).

No. It's just that's our mutual point of agreement.
